English Wine Week 2016

English Wine Week 2016 will take place between Saturday 28th May and Sunday 5th June.

English Wine Week is a national campaign, designed to raise awareness of English wine across the country. Vineyards across the country will also be opening their doors to welcome visitors, offering tours, tastings and special offers.

Here are some of the highlights:

Sparkling Outdoor Train Tour & Gallery Restaurant Dinner at Denbies Wine Estate

Saturday 28 May, 6.30pm & 7.30pm

Enjoy the early Summer evening commencing with their outdoor Vineyard Train Tour. Sparkling wine & canapés will be served at the top of Ranmore at one of the most spectacular view points of the vineyard overlooking Box Hill & Dorking. This will be followed by a three course meal in the Gallery Restaurant.

Breaky Bottom and Wiston Estate Wine Tasting – The Clash of the Titans!

Peter Hall from Breaky Bottom near Lewes will talk you through his award winning and delicious sparkling wines. This is a great opportunity to meet one of the legendary winemakers, with over 40 years of English wine production experience.

Dermot Sugrue from Wiston Estate near Pulborough has been in charge of making wines at Wiston Estate from their first vintage. The strikingly clean, dry and complex style of his wines are comparable to some of the best growers Champagnes.

Led by compère Henry Butler (of Butlers Wine Cellar), you will compare and contrast wines from both estates, interjected by wit and humour from these vinous superstars.

Bottling the Bubbles Tour at Hambledon Vineyard

Monday 30th May & Wednesday 1st June 2016

Hambledon Vineyard are offering an exciting and exclusive opportunity to help celebrate at the Vineyard!

For just two days only, they’ll be opening their doors to offer you the chance to come and see the bottling of their English Sparkling wine, after an exclusive guided tour, where you will be able to see exactly where it’s grown. This unique bottling process only occurs once a year at the vineyard, so you would be the first and only visitors to have the chance to get this full, behind the scenes view!

£35 per person for a full tour, bottling experience, a glass of cuvée and a bottle to take home.

English Winemakers Dinner at Drakes Hotel and Restaurant

Thursday 2nd June 2016

A 4-course fine dining menu, with each course beautifully paired with a different English wine, at the exquisite Drakes Hotel in Brighton.

Featuring wines from four Sussex wine producers: Bluebell Vineyard, Stopham Estate, Albourne Estate and Blackdown, with special guests from each of the vineyards in attendance and ready to present their wines and answer any questions about English wines and running a vineyard in England.

Tickets cost £85pp and are available from Drakes Hotel.
