Who judges my wine(s)?
We select a broad range of wine professionals and Champagne & Sparkling Wine lovers each year to judge the wines in our awards, none of the Glass of Bubbly team partake in the initial judging process. The team at Glass of Bubbly will supervise results and two members of the team will taste each wine and each offer a golden ticket to their favoured and also make the final decision upon any equal scoring taste offs.
What do I win?
We send out medal results (bronze to gold) and we supply you with the artwork for your badge to be used on your wine bottles / website. We also supply each medal winner with a certificate which will be emailed out to you for you to print out. Trophies will be awarded out during the awards evening. The famous Carynx trophy is awarded to The World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly which the said winery gets to keep the trophy for one year. The Sustainability in Sparkling Wine Trophy is awarded to the winery answering the correct questions on the Slow Food UK Sustainability Form with the highest average scoring winery taking this trophy home for one year.
What are the Glass of Bubbly Categories / what do they mean?
Each wine that enters our awards are initially scored via the 100 points system with: 80-84 Bronze / 85 – 88 Silver / 89+ Gold. Once the medals have been assigned to each wine, the next process is to judge the wines on the style that the consumer is likely to enjoy in the glass so this is why we created the first categories for Champagne & Sparkling Wines (with the guidance of Tatiana Mann). Each wine will be judged for which category (18 in total) it fits best in and then all Silver & Gold Medal wines receive a score using the 20 point system with the highest scoring wine in each category taking home the relevant trophy.
“Wines that enter the Glass of Bubbly Awards get not only a medal score plus tasting notes shared from top industry wine professionals to include Master of Wines but also the beauty of the Categories in that it is not about the quality of the wines at this stage as this has already been judged, it’s all about how well they suit particular tasting styles. Expect not only the finest wines to make the headlines, but also be prepared for the unexpected to take home the top prizes!” Christopher Walkey, founder of GlassofBubbly.com
Returning of Trophies:
Each year the World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly Trophy ‘Carynx’ is awards to the highest point score wine and the winery. This is handed out during the awards evening dinner or after this event. The winning winery will need to have adequate insurance to look after this trophy and manage the collection and dropping off (prior to August the following year). The same applies to the Sustainability in Sparkling Wine Trophy.
