How much sugar is in sparkling wine?
23rd December 2013
Brut is a level of sweetness in sparkling wine. Depending on your sweetness preference, many sparkling wine regions and producers will have a selection of sugar levels in their wines to choose from:
Brut Natural or Brut Zero has less than 3 grams of sugar per litre or no sugar at all.
Extra Brut has less than 6 grams of sugar per litre, so is sweeter.
Brut has less than 12 grams of sugar per litre so is sweeter still.
Extra Dry has up to 17 grams of sugar.
Dry has up to 32 grams of sugar.
Demi-Sec has up to 50 grams of sugar.
Doux has more than 50 grams.
The sugar content in sparkling wine is still very low compared to many other drinks.
