An Easter Cocktail

Easter Cocktail

Sunday the 9th of April 2023, Easter, this Christian festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead and the day of unlimited chocolate, enjoyed in the shape of an egg.

Although not tasting of chocolate, I’ve crafted an enjoyable sparkling wine and rum cocktail to relish on the famously celebrated day.

The Sparkling Wine – HUBA

HUBA Wine Growing and Oenology is a new family estate, creating their wines in the image of their noble soil, gentle sunshine, mild climate and the hard work gifted by their people.

They worked hard to include their vineyards in the Agri-Environment Climate Programme (KOPOP), where they protect their soil against erosion through continuous grass planting, keeping up to date on pest control, not adding any synthetic mineral nitrogen and avoiding the use of insecticides.

Vina HUBA Martinčič – Vialina Rosé Penina Brut – Tasting Notes

Aroma – “Soft pink floral, freshly picked ripe strawberries, crushed raspberries, pink blossom, lavender and more natural goodness on the aroma.”

Flavour – “Sharper strawberries initially, fuelled by the bubbles, a touch of herbal gardens with nettles and chives, then back to the berries, with redcurrant, black cherry juice and raspberries on the palate.”

Rum – Ten To One

Ten To One obtained its name from a phrase by the first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Eric Williams. When rallying to preserve the first Caribbean federation of 10 countries, he famously said, “One from ten leaves zero”, reflecting the idea that we are stronger together than we are apart.

Ten To One Caribbean White Rum – Tasting Notes – “White pepper, honeysuckle, smooth jasmine and lemongrass expressions within this clean white rum.”

Their story persists, and an interesting interview with their founder Marc Farrell can be found here.
