Bortolomiol celebrates 100 years from the birth of its founder Giuliano, renewing his visionary spirit.

His dream: to make Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore known throughout the world.

27 February 1922 – 27 February 2022. One hundred years have passed since Giuliano Bortolomiol, a name bound to write an important chapter in the history of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg, was born in Valdobbiadene. After attending Oenological School in Conegliano, Giuliano decided to stay in his homeland to rebuild what the conflict had destroyed. And to do so starting with wine.

One of the founders of Consorzio di Tutela, Giuliano was the first to believe that Prosecco could give its best in the Brut version, with a very low residual sugar content, at a time when the Extra Dry and Dry versions prevailed. A forerunner, therefore, whose legacy is now embodied by Grande Cuvée del Fondatore – Motus Vitae Valdobbiadene DOCG Prosecco Superiore Rive di San Pietro di Barbozza. To mark the centenary of Giuliano this wine now becomes the protagonist of an exceptional vertical tasting, from the 2016 to the 2020 harvest.

The celebrations will continue in May with the Artist’s Residence at Parco della Filandetta: a hymn to nature, to women and their sensitivity to art. The project, in its second edition, will concern land art. To showcase her site-specific artwork will be one of the artists selected among the 10 finalists of the ‘Female Land Artist Wanted’ international call for artists promoted by Bortolomiol in 2019.

Over the years, Giuliano’s legacy has been picked up by his wife Ottavia and his daughters Maria Elena, Elvira, Giuliana and Luisa, who have been able to enhance the company’s heritage by giving it a new impetus, with an increasingly sustainable approach to production and promoting the territory, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The decision to create the first organic vineyard in Parco della Filandetta, where Ius Naturae Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg biologic is born, goes in this direction. “With these initiatives we want to pay our tribute to an extraordinary territory and wine, marked by a history of redemption in which our father has written an important chapter,” says President Maria Elena Bortolomiol. “Our role has been to respect his legacy but also to project the company into the future with new challenges: environmental sustainability, art, culture.”
