The Sparkling Wine – Martinčič

The Martinčič family vineyard’s wine and cane growing farm is located in Šmalčja Vas near Šentjernej in the beautiful wine country of Slovenia.

Going back more than one hundred years, their ancestors planted the first vineyard and realized that the Dolenjska soil and sky gives the vine a special home, allowing the winemaker to create their Wines and Sparkling Wines.

Their farm is open to the public, for visits and tastings, you can tour their cellar where their award-winning wines and Sparkling Wines mature, they can welcome up to 50 people at a time.

The name for their Quattro Momenti Sparkling Wine was gifted to the Sparkling Wine by their four girls, containing all the poetry of their vineyards.

The Rum – John Paul Jones

“Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come sail with me.” – John Paul Jones

John Paul Jones Rum is heading in a new direction with its flavoured rums, with the team, Co-founder and Managing Director Ollie Blackett, Co-Founder, Master of Flavours and Head of Product, Finnian Gill and Head of Business Development Jack Cuddigan.

Captain John Paul Jones was one of the greatest Naval Masters and Commanders of all time, and serves as the inspiration behind the brand, which was founded on the very Estate that the man himself was born.

Born July 6th 1747 on the Arbigland Estate in the southwest of Scotland, John Paul Jones began his sailing career at 13, taking his first voyage to Barbados and Fredericksburg, Virginia and at the age of 17 he returned home to Scotland, being thrust into the role of Captain after fever ran rife aboard the homeward vessel.

JPJ would move to North America in 1775, offering his services to the newly founded Continental Navy, he worked his way up through the ranks and took up his first commanding role on the USS Ranger to France, where he became friends with Benjamin Franklin.

Soon after he would begin his comprehensive assault on the British, obtaining a notorious reputation sinking multiple ships and winning numerous battles, nearing the end of his life he sailed to Russia in 1788, helping to fight the Turkish and the Ottoman Empire, before settling in Paris in May 1790. He died at the age of 45 on the 18th of July 1792, at 8pm. He was buried in an alcohol-filled coffin, that is said to have been rum.

Captain Cocktail Tasting Notes

Aroma – “Not surprisingly, the shortbread is hogging the aroma, with faint caramel and herbs in the very far away background, removing the shortbread for a moment, you’ll still discover shortbread, but with much more, smooth and rich caramel, white rose petals, white floral, ginger, herbal coriander, bay leaves and rosemary.”

Flavour – “Smooth, warming, silky, relaxing and thrilling, melted caramel, toffee apples, vanilla extract, wild white floral, rosemary, subtle spicy feeling from the combined ginger and coriander, notes of oak and faint cocoa, but I’m sure there’s more to discover on our journey.”
