Christmas Movie Cocktails – Die Hard

14th December 2020

Die Hard Cocktail

Die Hard released on the 17th of July 1988 in USA and on the 3rd of February 1989 in the UK, the film had a $28 million budget, it made $141,467,197 worldwide.

The film had an amazing cast, including, Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, Reginald VelJohnson and Robert Davi, the love for Die Hard continued after the first film, with two more releasing in the 1990’s and a further two rebooted films in 2007 and 2013, a sixth film is supposedly in the works, they say that Bruce Willis is confirmed to pick up the role as John McClane again, with the story said to be set in two timelines, one where John is in his 20’s as a heroic cop and one in the present day, but until anything more is confirmed, you can check out this Commercial Bruce did as John McClane in 2020:

The original three films are by far the best compared to the newer reboots, with my favourite order being the 1st, 3rd then 2nd film. The third film Die Hard: With a Vengeance released on the 18th of August 1995 to a box office of $366.1 million on a budget of $90 million, it starred Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Irons.

Is Die Hard a Christmas Film?

This is a question that is sometimes asked, the film didn’t release around Christmas, but the events in the film are set on Christmas Eve, with Christmas decorations being frequently shown, the film is considered to be one of the greatest action films ever made (I would agree), Die Hard is an Action fans Christmas film, enjoyed by many on Christmas and the lead up to it, it’s certainly a film that is watched in my house often, whether it’s Christmas or not, as for the other films, Die Hard 2: Die Harder is also set on Christmas Eve, so is a Christmas movie as well, but the 3rd film took place during the summer.

Die Hard – Did You Know?

1. Die Hard didn’t just hit the big screens, it made its way onto the Video Game scene with games like Die Hard Arcade, Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza and Die Hard: Vendetta.

2. Bruce Willis wasn’t the first choice for Die Hard, there were rumours that Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro and Mel Gibson were all offered the role but declined.

3. Even though Bruce wasn’t considered an A-listed Actor, he was paid $5 million to star in Die Hard, which was on par with the top tier of Hollywood actors at the time.

4. Die Hard was Alan Rickman’s first feature film.

5. Die Hard’s Nakatomi Plaza is a real building which you can go and see in Los Angeles, but the building’s real name is Fox Plaza.

6. When Alan Rickman’s character falls out the window, he drops 20 feet onto an airbag, his reaction to that was very genuine because they decided to drop him on the count of two, not three.

7. Bruce Willis suffered permanent hearing loss while filming Die Hard because they made the gun sounds extra loud.

8. Bruce Willis improvised the line “Yippee-ki-yay, motherf*cker!” it was intended as a joke, to make everyone laugh, but it made the cut and is now one of the most famous lines from the film.

9. While promoting the movie Alan Rickman didn’t think of Gruber as a Villain, he said: “I’m not playing the villain, I’m just playing somebody who wants certain things in life, has made certain choices and goes after them.”
