  1. Could you imagine the Eiffel Tower in Barcelona rather than Paris, it could well have been a reality, it was originally intended for Spain but they rejected the project thinking it would be too much of an eyesore.
  2. Spain produces over 40% of the world’s olive oil.
  3. More people speak Spanish in the USA than they do in Spain.
  4. Spain has two famous national holidays, La Tomatina where people throw thousands of tomatoes at each other and the Running of the Bulls where people try and outrun some bulls in the streets of Pamplona.
  5. You can walk around completely naked in Spain because there is no law saying you can’t, but it is still considered inappropriate to be naked in most public areas.
  6. The Spanish Civil War began on the 17th of June 1936 and ended on the 1st of April 1939, during this war 500,000 lives were taken.
  7. The youngest king ever to rule was Alfonso XIII of Spain, he was crowned king the day he was born.
  8. Britain accidentally invaded Spain for 5 minutes in 2002.
  9. Japan offered Spain 40 million pounds to buy the Philippines in 1894, they turned this offer down, and in 1898 Spain was defeated in the Spanish–American War and the Philippines ended up becoming a territory of the United States.

When it comes to celebrating independence the United Kingdon, France and Spain are three countries that don’t, but from the countries that celebrate independence, 62 celebrate independence from the United Kingdom, 28 from France, 17 from Spain, 16 from The Soviet Union, 7 from Portugal and the 5 from the United States of America.

Pere Ventura Family Wine Estates has three wineries under their name, with one being Pere Ventura, the winery is located in Spain and they make Cavas, they currently have 10 different bottles to choose from on their website, so you definitely are spoilt for choice, they are a family run winery who care deeply about what’s in the bottle and how their vineyard is looked after.

Saying that this winery has a history, may just be a little bit of an understatement, they have a history dating all the way back to 1369.
