Tiffin Fizz Cocktail

Collaborating with Forest Distillery and Ombre Prosecco, comes a new cocktail creation, something with the finest amount of Prosecco DOC and the perfect measurements of Earl Grey Gin.

Forest’s Earl Grey Gin posed an interesting challenge and opportunity to craft an original cocktail utilising their Earl Grey Gin, the Earl Grey, often associated with a nice cup of English brewed Tea is about to be transformed into the fizz cocktail world, with the addition of Prosecco DOC, as the fizzy component.

Where Did The Earl Grey Blend Come From?

The origins of the Earl Grey tea remain mostly a mystery, but the most talked about explanation is that the Earl Grey Blend or Earl Grey’s Mixture comes from the British Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834, Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey, however, the component of adding bergamot to tea was already being done before his death, it’s surely possible that the second Earl Grey enjoyed a cup, it’s unlikely that he inspired it, but that hasn’t stopped people from trying to connect the tea to the earl.

Let’s meet the Prosecco label that we’ll be working with to put this cocktail together.

Ombre – Prosecco DOC

I was introduced to Ombre for the first time by Neil Phillips, the brand ambassador for Prosecco DOC at the Glass of Bubbly Show 2023, which was held at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane, a very eye-catching artistic label, I got to quickly taste their DOC label on the day, but was fortunately also able to enjoy a relaxed glass at home along with their DOC Rosé label.

“The world of OMBRE embodies everything that is spontaneous and natural. Each glass tells the story of moments in which one can enjoy relaxing, authentic and decidedly less hectic instants of life. OMBRE is the wine recommended to those who are looking for a naturally organic lifestyle.” – Ombre Prosecco

Ombre Prosecco DOC – Tasting Notes

Aroma – “Green pears and green apples, with subtle white floral and blossom notes, then comes a hint of freshly grown garden herbs, foilage, and rose petals, delicate in character, very smooth and rounded.”

Flavour – “The palate gifts a more prominent kick of greenery notes with foilage, freshly cut grass, succulent green apple flesh, green pears picked from the tree at the perfect time and notes of delicate floral including, white and pink floral characters.”

Now it’s time to meet the Gin label, the Earl Grey Gin from Forst Distillery

Forest Distillery – Earl Grey Gin

From our kitchen table to the World’s best bars

Forest Gin‘s story begins in 2014 when Lindsay & Karl Bond began home distilling tiny batches of their own spirits from the kitchen table in their home next to Macclesfield Forest.

From small personal creations, they’ve been able to grow their business, getting their Gins into some of the world’s best bars, a lot of these gin distilleries are born by a couple of people with a dream and determination, putting in the work and learning the ropes.

The first distillations were purely for their own enjoyment, throwing in handfuls of berries, mosses and ferns which their 6 year old daughter Harriet had foraged from the forest and surrounding hills.

Word started to spread about their gin, and they decided to decant the liquid into porcelain bottles to see if anybody would be interested in tasting it.

Let’s just say now they’ve been recognised as one of the world’s finest spirits and being sold in the finest bars, restaurants, hotels and lounges around the world. The Forest Distillery relocated to join its sister Whisky distillery at the iconic Cat & Fiddle in the Peak District National Park.

They are still a small, independent distillery, and between the 5 of them there, they continue to produce their products in the same ways that they did at home, they forage for their ingredients regularly in the Forest and they always do their very best to ensure that these fresh, natural flavours come through in your glass.
