Traveling By Air The Air Mail Cocktail

Stamped and cleared to travel, we’re going up in the sky to intercept a couple of ingredients, the Sparkling Wine from the country of Slovenia and a bottle of White Rum from the United States of America, the Air Mail Cocktail was likely originally crafted during the 1920s or 1930s during the American Prohibition in either the United States or Cuba.

White Rum

Rum was the original spirit of choice enjoyed by the Founding Fathers before the American Revolution.

Before the Boston Tea Party (1773) there was the Portsmouth Molasses Party (1771). Rum, not tea started the revolution. Rum was enjoyed by George Washington,  John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.

“I know not why We Should blush to confess that Molasses was an essential Ingredient in American independence. Many great Events have proceeded from much Smaller Causes” – President John Adams, Letter to William Tudor Sr. 11 August 1818

Deep in the heart of Sugarcane Country, three childhood friends would have a revelation of their own, the main ingredient of rum (sugarcane) has been cultivated on their property since the 1700s, but it wouldn’t be until 2011 that they started cultivating it for the purpose of crafting great American Rum, two years later, the Bayou Rum Distillery opened their doors in Lacassine, LA, available throughout the United States and in the UK via Amazon.

Bayou Rum Distillery – Bayou White Rum – Tasting Notes – “Subtle notes of vanilla, ripe bananas and a hint of green apples on the aroma, the palate displays creamy vanilla, honeysuckle, nectar and banana.”
