Vauversin Champagne

The Vauversin family have been making wine in the Grand Cru village of Oger since 1640.

Laurent Vauversin is the current custodian, having recently taken over the family business from his father Bruno. Laurent’s grandfather took the decision to start making wine on a commercial scale back in 1930 and 84 years later Laurent is continuing the family tradition of growing and producing great Champagne.

The 3ha vineyard in Oger sits on the chalky Côte des Blancs escarpment South of Epernay, an area renowned for its impressive Chardonnay Champagnes. The Laurent’s attitude and ethos towards wine making is clear; be less intrusive, simpler and allow the full flavour and incredible subtlety of the Chardonnay grape assert itself. This ethos is typified in the vineyard’s ongoing organic conversion effort.

Laurent’s range of Grand Cru Champagnes truly typifies the individual terroir of his vineyard, village and the Côte des Blancs. Light, fresh and subtle flavours combined with a real depth and pleasant complexity.

Brut Original Grand Cru

Laurent says that this Champagne is an expression of their family’s Champagne tradition and know-how. Uniquely Chardonnay and typifying the great Champagnes of the Côte de Blancs, its distinguished by its pale gold colour, delicacy, extreme lightness and minerality.

Brut Réserve Grand Cru

Complex, long and incredibly drinkable, Laurent’s Reservé uses old oak barrels as he seeks neither tannins nor the wooded taste, instead a rounded, mature and softer palate. It is fermented for 12 months in barrels and then aged 3-4 years in bottles in his cellars.

Millésime 2005 Grand Cru

This excellent vintage champagne comes from a selection of Vauversin’s 50 year old vines. An extra-brut champagne, ideal as an aperitif, it has a real freshness, vivacity and depth. A fantastic high-end vintage champagne for those extra special unforgettable occasions in life.

Rosé Du Soir Grand Cru

Laurent Vauversin’s Rose du Soir brings together Chardonnay from Oger and a small amount of Pinot Noir from Bouzy. Long and balanced, Rosé Du Soir is a pleasant fruity surprise to the palate with hints of acacia and blackcurrant.
