Charles Palmer Vineyards

Charles Palmer Brut

Planted in 2006, the Charles Palmer exclusive 5 acre vineyard is fully south facing and sits on a bed of Kimmeridge clay just 5 metres above sea level, arguably putting it in the best place in England for growing and producing from its top quality Burgundy clone vines.

The wine is produced from 100% estate grown grapes and all the fruit is hand picked by the producers with the help of specialist contractors. It spends a minimum of 2 1/2 years on the lees under the watchful eye of leading international winemaker Will Davenport at his organic winery a few miles from us. We lightly press the grapes which keeps the tannins low and maximises the complexity of the subtle flavours, it has a very fine and smooth mousse. Our wine is bottle fermented, and the 2009 vintage Brut is predominantly Pinot Noir, at 70%, with 30% Chardonnay. It was award winning from the word go.

Every year the labels are individually numbered and signed by Charles Palmer, and are all hand applied. We currently only produce a classic blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a new vintage and a still Rose due for release in the Spring, and a Blanc de Noir to follow in 2015.
