Polgoon Vineyard

27th February 2014

Polgoon Vineyard and Orchard is located on South facing slopes in Penzance, Cornwall.

The land has always been used for farming and through the 1900s Polgoon was a commercial flower farm. Its rich soil, free draining south facing slopes make Polgoon the perfect environment for planting a vineyard and the extra special ‘terroir’ to produce award winning wines.

John and Kim Coulson bought the derelict farm 2002 and with advice from Bob Lindo at Camel Valley Vineyard planted their first 3.5 acres of vines in 2004. Starting with four varieties of vine: Rondo, Pinot Noir, Seyval Blanc and Ortega, another 8 acres including some additional Bacchus vines and Pinot Meunier were planted in subsequent years.

Experimenting with traditional methods the Coulson family continued to win national awards for their wines and ciders.

The Vineyard has become a popular attraction in Cornwall offering tours and tastings from March through to December. There is also a shop and deli full of the finest local produce open all year round.
