English Wine Producers launches new branding for English Wine Week 2014
15th April 2014
English Wine Producers (EWP) has launched new branding for this year’s English Wine Week which takes place from 24th May to 1st June across the UK.
Amphora Design has created a striking new logo featuring a wine glass, vine tendrils and a classic red rose to complement the EWP branding. The new logo, which evokes the many aspects of English Wine Week, is designed to be versatile and is accompanied by a range of point of sale materials aimed at different sectors of the trade. There are leaflets, posters and bottle neck tags for the off-trade, which can be customised by individual retailers, as well as window stickers, bunting and banners to attract customers and encourage them to taste English wines in-store. For the on-trade, menu cards and leaflets are also available. Most of the materials are free of charge and available from English Wine Producers.
English Wine Week is a national campaign, designed to raise awareness and availability of English wine across the country in both the off-trade (multiple grocers and specialists, independent retailers) and the on-trade (hotels, pubs, bars, restaurants) and consequently amongst consumers.
This year, EWP has appointed a dedicated project manager, Zoë Davey, to manage the campaign and step up activities. Zoë is liaising directly with the trade to develop awareness and encourage them to participate in a range of activities to promote English wine.
Julia Trustram Eve, marketing director, English Wine Producers, says, “Having Zoë on board has given the initiative a huge boost with uptake quadrupling since last year. We want to encourage people who have never tried English wine to just give it a go and we’re confident that the new branding will help to raise awareness.”
Several major retailers are already on board, including Waitrose and Laithwaites, both strong supporters of English wine, who will be running special offers, themed tastings and events.
Rebecca Hull MW, Wine Buyer, Waitrose, says, “We will be supporting English Wine Week with some special offers and ‘Buyer’s Choice’ recommendations in-store and online. In early May, we will be launching a new Waitrose English Dry White as well as our own Leckford Estate 2011 Brut which is very exciting. We’re also planning to hold another English wine tasting at our Oxford Street Food Hall after last year’s successful event.”
Independent retailers are also keen to get involved. Jon Crouch, owner of The Cave, a retailer and wine bar in the New Forest, Hampshire, says, “We already stock a wide selection of English wines which are very popular with our regular customers, both by the glass and the bottle. We’re looking forward to introducing new customers to some top wines from Hampshire, Dorset and Sussex, with a number of special events during English Wine Week.”
English wine producers, small and large, will be holding special events throughout the country including tastings, winemaker dinners and vineyard tours. Many of them will be supporting their key customers with in-store tastings and food and wine.
