Christmas Movie Cocktails – The Grinch
17th December 2020
The Grinch, the man who stole Christmas was created by Dr. Seuss, he made his first appearance in ‘The Hoobub and the Grinch’ in May 1955, since then he has appeared in books, games, musicals and three films.
The most popular Grinch film is How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch and Christine Baranski as Martha May Whovier, the film released on November 15th 2000 (UK) and November 17th 2000 (USA) with it making $345,401,855 worldwide after working with an estimated $123,000,000 budget.
The Grinch – Did You Know?
1. The first time the Grinch appeared on TV was on December 18th, 1966 in an animated television special, it was called ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ the special lasts 26 minutes.
2. The Grinch has his own Musical, it was first performed in November 1994 and is called Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
3. Eddie Murphy and Jack Nicholson both auditioned to play the Grinch in the 2000 film, but as we know, the role was given to Jim Carrey, wonder what an Eddie Murphy Grinch would have looked like?
4. Jim Carrey spent a lot of time in the makeup chair while filming the Grinch, the very first time took 8 and a half hours to mould the perfect look, after that, it then took 3 hours per day, he did this around 100 times over the course of filming.
5. I think it’s safe to say that Jim Carrey didn’t very much like wearing the complete outfit for the Grinch, the producers thought at one point that he might end up quitting, he described the costume and prosthetics as “literally like being buried alive every day”, he received training on how to endure torture by CIA operatives to cope with it.
6. The line “6:30 p.m. Dinner with me; I can’t cancel that again.” was completely improvised by Jim Carrey.
7. Welcome to Who-School, all the actors who played a Who in Whoville had to go to a Who-School to learn how to act like a Who while filming.
