19th December 2022

Deck THe Halls Cocktail

A film with only 6% on Rotten Tomatoes, Deck The Halls stars Danny DeVito as Buddy Hall and Matthew Broderick as Steven Finch, two neighbours who become rivals as Danny DeVito’s character decides he wants this Christmas to make history, by being seen from space, he lights his house up with a grand display of Christmas lights which progressively start to annoy his neighbour, Matthew Broderick’s character.

Releasing on the 22nd of November, 2006, taking in $12 million in the first weekend, and finishing fourth in the box office, the film grossed a total of $35.1 million in North America and $12.1 million in other countries, for a total of $47.2 million, despite the millions earnt, the film took a loss, as it costed $51 million, only earning back 91.8% of its total budget. The movie was then released on DVD on the 6th of November 2007, almost a year later.

Although titled Deck The Halls, it had other possible titles in the works, such as ‘Wreck The Halls’ and ‘All Lit Up’.

The speedskating race scene in the movie was an important one for Matthew Broderick, who spent months training at Chelsea Piers in New York City to be prepared for that moment.

In the movie, Danny DeVito’s house display could not have been possible with normal Christmas lights, they had to use LED lights instead, but even then, the house with all the lights on would not have been seen from space.

The Gin – 6 O’clock

The name 6 O’clock Gin was inspired by a long-held family tradition of indulging in a G&T at 6 O’clock, the distillery produces a range of smooth, handcrafted artisan gins in small batches.

Founded by Edward and Penny Kain, who around 30 years ago owned their own fruit farm, it was there that they started making some fruity liqueurs and sold them to their local customers.

They then went on to create their first Sloe Gin. Years later, Michael and Felicity took over their parents’ distillery and, guided by the family’s expertise in liqueurs, they set about perfecting their gin recipe.

Located firmly in their home city of Bristol, 6 O’clock Gin is now spreading its wings, becoming available in quality outlets up and down the country, and exporting around the world, to Europe, USA, Canada, Southeast Asia and beyond.

Tasting Notes – “Sweet ripe plums with succulent black and red cherries and subtle notes of winter spices.”
