The Sparkling Wine – Ruggeri

Deeply rooted in the tradition of winemaking, the history of Ruggeri Winery began in 1950, founded by Giustino Bisol and his cousin, whose surname, Ruggeri, they adopted as part of the brand for their company.

In the early days, Ruggeri was one of only a handful of producers around Valdobbiadene focused on sparkling wine. Giustino’s son Paolo and granddaughter Isabella have since taken the company forward with the same pioneering spirit.

The Rum – Barti

Barti Rum set sail in the summer of 2017. An idea captured by Jonathan Williams, his creation includes the Laver Seaweed which was once one of the most popular food items in South Wales.

Barti Rum is named after Pirating Legend John Roberts aka Barti Ddu, a Welsh born, he joined the Royal Navy, stationed aboard his Majesty’s royal ship, on a voyage that got boarded by pirates, although not keen to join the pirates like some of his Royal Naval shipmates, John relented rather than be killed.

He rose to become the Captain’s right hand man, being voted as the new Captain after Captain Davis’ death, taking on the name Bartholomew Roberts, he captured over four hundred ships during the course of his short pirate career.

He is said to have drawn up the first ever pirate code whereby every man on board should have an equal share of all bounty. There is more to this famous Pirate, including that women should never fall victim to attack by any of his men, which you can discover here.

Barti Rum – Tasting Notes – “Smooth vanilla, with cloves, cinnamon, seaweed and sweet citrus.”

Their new bottle is designed with 50% recycled glass and the label is made from fully biodegradable cane sugar biproduct.

• Sparkling Wine
• Mint Leaves
• Seaweed
• Crushed Ice

How To Make The Over The Waves Cocktail

• Fill The Glass With Crushed Ice, Mint Leaves and Seaweed
• Pour in 100mls of Sparkling Wine
• Then 20mls of Barti Rum

Aroma – “Sweet aromatic vanilla, with waves of freshly picked garden mint and straight from the ocean floor seaweed, along with hints of fresh English country garden and ripe orchard fruits on the aroma.”

Flavour – “Rich vanilla and oak, accompanied by wild mint, hints of sea salt and orchard fruits, fresh and vibrant, partnered with agreed perfection.”
