Champagne Allouchery-Perseval Interview With Emilien Allouchery

The love of Champagne is infinite, a language that everyone can understand, a sparkle that can shine in anyone’s glass, it can connect people, brings them together and places a smile on faces around the world.

In this exclusive feature on Glass of Bubbly, we speak with Emilien Allouchery, the skilled Winemaker and Owner of Champagne Allouchery-Perseval, let’s discover a little about his life, his journey into the industry and one of his favoiurote Champagne memories.

It’s Great To Speak With You, Emilien, Can You Tell Us A Little About Yourself & How Your Journey Into The Champagne Industry Began?

“I was lucky enough to grow up in a family of winegrowers. After my scientific baccalauréat, I naturally went on to study wine, first in Champagne and then in Burgundy. Before returning to the family estate, I wanted to discover the wines of the New World, so I did some winemaking in New Zealand and South Africa. I took over the family domaine in 2006. Year after year, I have perfected my knowledge of my terroir to practice increasingly virtuous viticulture; I have also been able to refine my blends and the aging of my Champagnes.”

Do You Remember Your First Experience With Champagne?

“It’s hard to remember because I must not have been very old ! I must have experienced my first glass of Champagne during the grape harvest or at a family party!”

How Rewarding And Challenging Is Managing Your Own Champagne House?

“It’s first a great opportunity to be a winemaker, because it’s a multi-faceted profession, from growing the vines as close to nature as possible to marketing our own cuvées. Being in Champagne is indeed a great opportunity, because our product is renowned and successful throughout the world, and it’s a wine that allows you to experiment a lot with blending and ageing.”

When It Comes To Pairing Champagne With Food, Do You Have Any Favourite Combinations That You Would Personally Recommend?

“I particularly like Champagne with fish, especially turbot. With cheese, there are also great matches like with comté or brie..”

Can You Share With Us Some Of The Countries And Locations Around The World That You Can Enjoy A Glass Of Champagne Allouchery-Perseval?

The House is now present in around fifteen countries, mainly in Europe (Denmark / Sweden / Norway / Germany / Slovenia / UK / Italy / Slovenia / Belgium) but also in Asia (Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea) and America (Canada, Mexico).

What Future Plans Can Enthusiasts Of Champagne Allouchery-Perseval Look Forward To In The Coming Years?

I want to continue to develop the welcome at the estate, in particular by opening a guest house, but also by expanding internationally to reach even more people!

Can You Share With Us One Of The Most Memorable Experiences You’ve Enjoyed With A Glass of Bubbly?

“I remember after a trade fair in Japan being invited with other Champagne winemakers to the home of a great Champagne lover. The cellar in his flat was very impressive and we were able to taste Champagnes that we hadn’t been able to taste at home!”

Thank you Emilien, for sharing your story and experiences with us and we at Glass of Bubbly wish you the very best for the future!
