18th November 2024
The love of Champagne is infinite, a language that everyone can understand, a sparkle that can shine in anyone’s glass, it can connect people, brings them together and places a smile on faces around the world.
In this exclusive feature on Glass of Bubbly, we speak with Juliette Pétret Martinval, the owner of Champagne Juliette Pétret. Let’s discover a little about her life, her journey into the industry and one of her favourite Champagne memories.
Great To Speak With You, Juliette. Can You Tell Us A Little About Yourself And How Your Journey Into The Champagne Industry Began?
“Hello! Thank you for having me; it’s always a pleasure to share my love for winemaking! I’m Juliette Pétret, born and raised in Chouilly, a small village in the Côte des Blancs region. Growing up here, I was captivated by local traditions like the annual ‘St Vincent’ celebration, where Champagne makers dressed as antique vinegrowers parade through town with baskets of grapes, blessing the harvest. Witnessing my mother’s dedication to crafting Champagne sparked my passion, which deepened as I explored different cultures worldwide, and realized the finess of our work and Champagne.”
Do You Remember Your First Experience With Champagne? When Was It And What Kind Of Label Was It?
“My earliest memory is the sound of a cork popping—a joyful herald of celebrations and still is.
As for labels, ‘Grand Siècle’ from Laurent Perrier holds a special place in my heart.”
How Rewarding And Challenging Is Managing Your Own Champagne House?
“Managing Juliette Pétret Champagne is incredibly rewarding yet challenging. Overcoming obstacles like weather challenges and maintaining tradition amidst evolving techniques keeps me motivated.
This is why each vintage is a testament to our resilience and dedication.
I feel grateful that my day to day life is about creating a product that brings joy and celebration to people… what a rewarding purpose!”
When It Comes To Pairing Champagne With Food, Do You Have Any Favourite Combinations?
“Pairing Champagne with food is an art I enjoy.
Our cuvée ‘L’originale’, aged for three years, pairs beautifully with scallops and passion fruit. Its vibrancy complements seafood delicately, enhancing both flavors.
Our Cuvée la Flamboyante, aged for five years, boasts rich complexity and elegance. Its bold, mature flavors pair beautifully with lobster risotto or roasted duck with figs, enhancing both the dish’s depth and the Champagne’s refined character for a truly memorable gastronomic experience.”
What Future Plans Can Enthusiasts Of Champagne Juliette Pétret Look Forward To?
“We’re excited about our upcoming vintage ‘l’Enchanteresse’, blending innovation with tradition, I have been working with wood, and I am really excited to launch this new cuvée;
Expanding into international markets, especially in Asia and Latin America, is a key goal. Through my life, and my studies, I met great people from these regions, and I wish that they ey can enjoy Champagne Juliette Pétret wherever they are.”
Can You Share With Us One Of The Most Memorable Experiences You’ve Enjoyed With A Glass Of Bubbly?
“At Champagne Juliette Pétret, we have a motto that fuels our mojo, and it goes like this: ‘They are #1001 reasons to open a bottle of our Champagne, Which is yours?’ This, for me, is the essence of what makes a good Champagne moment: The encounter of unique life moments with the sparkliness of Champagne.”
Thank you Juliette, for sharing your story and experiences with us and we at Glass of Bubbly wish you the very best for the future!
