Velfrey Vineyard Non-Vintage Welsh Sparkling Wine
14th March 2025

Velfrey started back in 2016, fairly new to the world of wine, especially in Wales, as the first Welsh Vineyards started popping back up around the 1960s, I say ‘back up’ because it’s believed that the first vines ever planted in Wales were by Suetonius Paulinus, a Roman governor at the time, in AD 75 during the Roman occupation of Wales in the small town of Caerleon.
Velfrey Vineyard is planted on a south-facing slope of the Lampeter Vale in the south Pembrokeshire countryside, occupying 3 acres, and containing over 4,000 vines. They plant the following Grape Varieties: Pinot Noir, Seyval Blanc & Solaris.
“Butter covered pastry, with fresh yellow fruits, a touch of peach and apricot, wild floral, yellow and white floral notes. Touch zesty and zingy, also, light and fruity in the yellow fruity variety, “ – Glass of Bubbly

Where’s The Most Memorable Place You’ve Enjoyed A Glass of Bubbly? “I could say Velfrey Vineyard, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Overlooking our vines and tasting the first ever bottle of Velfrey. But maybe that’s too unique to us. So, how about on the top of the Empire State Building, New York City, on the occasion of our Silver Wedding Anniversary, in 2012. If you’d told me then I’d be drinking my own Welsh sparkling wines less than 10 years later, I certainly would not have believed you!” – Andy Mounsey – Velfrey Vineyard
