Domaine Hugo is a biodynamic vineyard and winery in Wiltshire, England, known for its natural, low-intervention sparkling wines. They focus on expressing the terroir of their chalky soil through minimal intervention winemaking techniques. Their wines, including a field blend sparkling wine and a Col Fondo, are made with organically grown grapes and fermented with indigenous yeasts, without fining, filtration, or added sulfur.

Hugo Stewart’s interest in biodynamic farming and creating distinctive wines, combined with his collaboration with talented winemaker Daniel Ham of Offbeat wines, has created idiosyncratic, award-winning wines.

Hugo’s farming odyssey has taken him from conventional pig and cereal farming on the family farm in the 70s, to the creation of Les Clos Perdus – a biodynamic vineyard and winery in the Languedoc, then back to Wiltshire, where he decided to dramatically change the farming practices with a new focus on soil health, biodiversity and viticulture.

In 2016, Hugo planted Champagne varieties on the chalky soils in Wiltshire and by 2018, he had his first vintage. Domaine Hugo produces traditional method sparkling wine and a semi-sparkling Col Fondo. Hugo’s viticulture caught the attention of biodynamic pioneer Nicolas Joly, and Domaine Hugo is now part of Renaissance des Appellations-Return to Terroir, the highly regarded group of international biodynamic wine producers.

Their flagship wine, simply called ‘Hugo’, is made in the traditional method, similar to Champagne. Their 2020 Hugo won a Silver Medal in the Zesty & Zingy Category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024.
