Champagne Colette Bonnet – Judged to be the World’s Best for 2025

1st November 2025

World's best wine maker for 2025 Colette Bonnet

Sometimes amongst the giants walk legends…

Did you know that the Champagne region is actually split into two main regions by over 100km, the northern part is probably the most famous and acclaimed in respect of the houses it homes, such as Krug, Pol Roger, Moet & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot and many more, along with major tourist cities as Reims and Epernay. Though if you have time, if you want to experience the full expression of Champagne, then we need to discover the Côte des Bar region.

In the Aube region, north-eastern region of France and mostly east of Troyes, we are in the southernmost region of the world famous Champagne region. “If I am honest, it is a world apart from the northern region of Champagne, it is unique and far more rural in character – equally competing for expressions of amazing terroir aromas and flavours.Christopher Walkey – Glass of Bubbly co-founder

Champagne Colette Bonnet Noir Essentiel No.2016 was a clear winner of our 2025 awards, highest in tasting scores and backed up further by several golden tickets which express a judge’s preferred wine of the judging. It is always a delight when it is a smaller, family producer who wins our title. I am delighted it is a lady winemaker also – Well done, Colette!Eve Walkey – Glass of Bubbly Awards Executive

I cultivate 2.24 hectares of organic vineyards located in the commune of Noé les Mallets (Baséquanais). My plots are planted with Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay. The average age of my vines is 20 years. Champagne Colette Bonnet

With a limited production and a wonderful expression of their terroir, Colette has been producing Champagne for over ten years (since 2009) with a growing commitment to organic viticulture. If you want to stop over with Colette Bonnet, then do take advantage of their Chambre d’Hôtes.

Champagne Colette Bonnet Noir Essentiel No. 2016 tasting notes:Firstly, grab a bottle whilst you can! A limited production makes this a highly collectable label from a small producer delivering exceptional flavours in the southern region of Champagne. Pinot Noir 94% – Chardonnay 6% and we are experiencing bold aromas and flavours!

Disgorgement date for serious Champagne connoisseurs is February 2021.

Initially, the aromas are yellow stone fruits, deep and expressive, young and clean. Allowing time for the wine to open up, we get to enjoy a nose of white fruits / floral / toasted almonds / freshly baked French bread. Dare I say toasted honey aromas creep in at the close.

We certainly are on a journey with flavours from fresh red berry juice without skin expression, white apple flesh and saline initially. As the wine opens, we are rewarded with more yeasty influences with apricot glazed French pastries, creamy cashew nuts and a kick of peachy acidity.

Each journey with this wine can be quite personal as we spark memories in our minds.
