Meet the Winemaker – An Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Tour at Biddenden

Kent’s original vineyard, Biddenden, has been owned and managed by the Barnes family since 1969. Today, the vineyard is run by the second & third generations of the family, drawing on many years of experience in winemaking at Biddenden.

There is no better way to explore the vineyard and learn about how they produce our award-winning wines than with one of our winemakers.

Their exclusive meet the winemaker tours are designed for groups looking for an in-depth, personalised experience with an opportunity to discuss our wines with the people who make them, something a standard tour simply cannot offer.

Upon arriving at the vineyard, you will be greeted by either Managing Director Julian Barnes, second-generation grower and winemaker, or General Manager Tom Barnes, third-generation grower and winemaker.

After a glass of Sparkling Wine or Sparkling Apple Juice, Julian or Tom will take your group on a journey around the vines, exploring how our wines began life in the 25-acre vineyard. You will learn about the 12 different varieties they grow and why they grow them; their soil and maritime climate; and what usually happens through a winemaker’s year.

Moving into the winery, Julian or Tom will share their family knowledge and passion for what makes a great English wine; some of the production methods at Biddenden, including how they make their award-winning Gribble Bridge Sparkling Wines; and there will also be the opportunity to explore how they produce their range of drinks.

Finally, the group will be able to get up close and personal with the wines themselves as Julian or Tom conducts a tutored tasting through a specially selected range of 6 wines. Arrangements can be made for food.
