Bootleggers Cocktail

During the American prohibition, the manufacture, sale and transportation of intoxicating liquors were strictly prohibited, but when the government decided to restrict and remove such a sought-after and enjoyed part of life, the people rose up and operated under the cover of darkness.

Bootleggers, or ‘Rum Runners’, sprung up across the country to fill speakeasies and distribute rums, gins and spirits to the people who wanted to enjoy them.

Crafted with Twisted Root Distillery’s Dark Rum and Založnik Winery’s Slovenian Sparkling Wine to bring you something special.

The Sparkling Wine

Založnik hosts both a vineyard and fruit farm, cultivating and fulfilling their tradition for the past four generations, since 1911.

Located on the slopes of Pohorje, on the golden green hills of beautiful Škalce, above Slovenske Konjice. Their vines grow on the highest terroir of the famous Škalce, where the sun is abundant throughout the year.

Aroma – “Delicate yellow floral, yellow rose petals with subtle dried citrus, zesty lemon, lemon pulp and candy lemon on the aroma.”

Flavour – “Zesty lemon, zesty citrus, notes of lemon pulp, skin and juice, a touch of wild yellow floral, nectar and yellow rose petals on the palate.”

The Rum

If you go venturing into the backwoods of East Yorkshire, hidden away, you could stumble across a rare insight into the world of Moonshine and Rum. Rum Runner – Twisted Roots Distillery is producing quality English Rum and some famous Moonshine.

Handbuilt, by hammer and by fire, their copper pot still is their crowning glory, standing at 10ft tall, with the capacity to contain one thousand liters of Rum, it waits to be discovered by you, high and mighty, producing for us Brits, a taste of Rum.

• 60mls of Sparkling Wine
• 15mls of Dark Spiced Rum
• 10mls of Simple Syrup
• 5 Crushed Black Pepper Balls

Garnish

• Wooden Spoon
• Almond
• Chutney
• Grounded Black Pepper

Bootleggers Cocktail Tasting Notes

Aroma – “Natural aromatic aroma of black pepper with hints of ginger in the background, subtle notes of dark caramel and dried lemons comes through on a bed of monkey nuts.”

Flavour – “The palate gets ready to explode with spicy character but is quickly toned down by the zestiness of the sparkling wine, mellowing out the experience, leaving the black pepper to come through at the close with its mouth-tingling sensation, the rum adopts the ginger syrup and adds spicy ginger, molasses and dark toffee to the palate.”
