While the Xarel-lo grape is famous for being used in Cava. This Can Sumoi Xarel·lo is a still, dry white wine. Produced by Pepe Raventós in the Penedès region of Spain, this natural wine is made from 100% Xarel-lo grapes and is known for its high acidity, mineral-driven character, and notes of green apple, fennel, and white flowers.
The minimal-intervention wine project led by Pepe Raventós in Montmell reaffirms its core values of recovery, cooperation and a return to rural life with a further step: the restoration of two rural structures that had fallen into disuse in the Serra del Montmell.
Can Sumoi is today a living project in the heart of Montmell, bringing its founding objective to life: restoring vitality and recovering rural life on a historic estate dating back to 1645. A mountain property surrounded by forest, where vineyards coexist with olive trees, cereals and Mediterranean wildlife within a real balance that is carefully worked and sustained every day.
With the arrival of Alfred Ferrís and his family, 2025 marked a turning point: Can Sumoi is once again inhabited. The constant presence in the fields, the work with animal traction and the recovery of polyculture have reactivated the agricultural rhythm of the mountain. The estate is worked and lived every day.
In this context, they present the new 2025 vintages of Xarel·lo and Ancestral Montònega — two wines born in a year in which the mountain has regained vigour and the estate has breathed with renewed strength.
Xarel·lo is the backbone of the project. It is the variety that best expresses the inland Mediterranean — the one that connects mountain and freshness, structure and tension. At Can Sumoi, Xarel·lo is a declaration of place: vineyards historically adapted to the site, naturally low yields, and a unique ability to convey the calcareous soils and forested surroundings of Montmell.
Xarel·lo 2025 is a single-paraje wine born in the mountains of Montmell. A mountain landscape at 600 meters above sea level, surrounded by over 400 hectares of forest. A project rooted in rural revival, where viticulture coexists with woodland, animal traction and the recovery of historic vineyards.
The 2025 vintage of Can Sumoi Xarel·lo is a natural, organic, and biodynamic white wine, known for its high-altitude freshness. It is aromatic and mineral-driven with notes of lemon, green apple, pear, and herbs like fennel and bay leaf. It has a citrus, white flowers and mineral flavour with a lingering, chalky saline finish. It would pair well with seafood, white meat, and Mediterranean dishes.
