Celebrity Interview: Cheryl Baker
29th March 2016
Cheryl is best known for being a member of 1980s pop group Bucks Fizz, who won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest. Bucks Fizz went on to gain world-wide recognition with a string of more than 20 hits including three number ones: The Land Of Make Believe, My Camera Never Lies and of course, the winning Eurovision song, Making Your Mind Up.
In the 1980s Cheryl embarked on a career in television with a range of children’s shows, as well as daytime current affair programmes and prime-time Saturday evening shows. During the 90s she was on TV 6 days a week and is still a regular on prime-time television today.
She still continues to sing with Bucks Fizz and works with Mike Nolan and Jay Aston to this day. They perform in theatres and at major festivals throughout the UK, especially 80s weekends and yes they still rip their skirts off!
Glass of Bubbly Interview
Where’s the most memorable place you’ve ever enjoyed a Glass of Bubbly?
On a private island off the coast of Mauritius. My children were playing on the sand and their Godmother, Susie and I were looking out on this virtual paradise, when we were asked what we would like to drink. I said to Susie “It has to be Champagne. It doesn’t get much better than this.”
Which is your favourite Champagne or sparkling wine?
I think my favourite is Laurent-Perrier Rosé with Taittinger coming in a close second.
What does Champagne mean to you?
A: Success
B: Romance
C: Celebration
D: Enjoying great company
Well, Champagne is obviously all of the above, but for me it’s particularly about great company.
