In this exclusive feature on Glass of Bubbly, we speak with Benjamin Boude, the owner of Champagne Boude Baudin. Let’s discover a little about his life, his journey into the industry and one of his favourite Champagne memories.

It’s Great To Speak With You, Benjamin, Can You Tell Us A Little About Yourself & How Your Journey Into The Champagne Industry Began?

“Having grown up in the heart of the Champagne vineyards, it was only natural for me to turn to the profession of winemaking. After 6 years of studying viticulture, oenology, and marketing across France, I joined the family estate in 2012 to contribute my part to the legacy.”

Do You Remember Your First Experience With Champagne? When It Was And What Kind Of Label It Was?

“It’s not an easy question, because, in the region, we’re surrounded by bubbles from a very young age. The first experience I remember was with my parents’ Champagne. At the time, it was already Champagne Boude Baudin. It was for one of my birthdays; I must have been around ten years old. I took a sip, it was unique, exciting, and also the first time I drank alcohol. It was so different from what I knew, with so many different aromas and very fine bubbles… A memorable moment!”

How Rewarding And Challenging Is Running Your Own Champagne House?

“It’s an extraordinary and incredibly fascinating profession! Being the 5th generation of winemakers in the family carries a heavy responsibility, but it’s also a source of pride. I still cultivate vineyard plots that were planted by my great-grandparents. It’s incredible to think that simple grapevines can span generations, always with the same generosity. That’s also what allows us to write the history of our estate.”

When It Comes To Pairing Champagne With Food, Do You Have Any Favourite Combinations That You Would Personally Recommend?

“There are so many possible pairings with Champagne, it’s fascinating! No matter what you’re eating, there will definitely be a Champagne to accompany it.

But my favourite is undoubtedly our Brut Nature, the B Zéro, paired with a plate of Atlantic oysters.”

What Future Plans Can Enthusiasts Of Champagne Boude Baudin Look Forward To In The Coming Years?

“We always have plenty of ideas in mind for the future, but what I hope most for our consumers is that they can continue to enjoy Champagne Boude Baudin for many years to come! ;)”

Can You Share With Us One Of The Most Memorable Experiences You’ve Enjoyed With A Glass of Bubbly?

“The two most memorable events involving a glass of Champagne were the first times each of my children tasted Champagne. For both of them, it was on their first New Year’s Eve. We dipped a finger in the Champagne and then into their mouths. It was quite amusing! My daughter immediately made a face, while my son wanted more.”
