Champagne Bruno Paillard Blanc de Blancs 2006 Launch London
14th October 2016
I am sure that many in the industry will agree that there is not a day that goes past where a wine tasting event, wine label launch or a master class is taking place in London. As I gather my notes from the previous days tastings and events I attended, tasting many varied bubbly, I take particular note of the Bruno Paillard Blanc de Blancs 2006 which showcased itself to a select few wine Champagne focused writers at SushiSamba bar in Bishopsgate, London.
There is nothing more exciting than a small gathering of Champagne writers who are hosted by a familiar family face of a Champagne house and are about to taste a new release and there in front of us chilled on ice are magnums which will soon be popping and a new release 2006 vintage soon to be giving birth to a whole new tasting experience.
Alice Paillard lead the tasting of Champagne Bruno Paillard during a sushi style dinner and introduced us all to the Blanc de Blancs 2006. The wine offered an aroma of crisp lemon and orange peel with hints of almond, fine bubbles with a warm gold colour and tastes of ripe Summer fruits and bruised apple.
“Since his very first vintage in 1981, Bruno Paillard has commissioned an artist to design the label according to a theme that reflects the characteristics of the year. For 2006, the Swedish painter, Jockum Nordström, illustrated the label according to the theme “Volupté,” in keeping with the generosity and roundness of mature citrus fruits in this wine.”
Cosy, up many floors in one of London’s most famous sushi restaurants with the likes of St Pauls, The Shard and Tower Bridge in view, one cannot beat adding to this than by pouring Champagne which Bruno Paillard made sure there was plenty to share. Sitting next to respected Champagne writer Michael Edwards and Managing Editor of Drink Business, Lucy Shaw, the evening was both enjoyable and educational as we all warmed further to Alice and Bruno Paillard.
