Champagne Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millénaires 2004
17th January 2018
An email invitation from Willem Pincon of Champagne Charles Heidsieck is always a delightful thing to see popping into my in-box and on this occasion, it was to the UK presentation of the Blanc des Millénaires 2004.
The presentation was led by Stephen Leroux and included a taste through the house’s most well known labels to include the Rosé Réserve NV, Brut Réserve NV, Brut Millésime 2006 and Rosé Millésime 2006. All these wines I have tasted on a few occasions and each new tasting deserves a new set of notes as the aromas and flavours, though very recognisable as being Charles Heidsieck, also show many improvements (maybe it is just because I appreciate fine Champagne more and more now).
For me, their Rosé Réserve NV is a personal favourite giving such a fruity sensation on the nose full of ripe Summer strawberries with a slightly dry initial taste that is then accompanied by red berry fruits to give a good refreshing and crisp kick to every mouthful.
The early afternoon tasting was though dedicated mostly to the Blanc des Millénaires 2004 with its composition of 5 crus, 100% Chardonnay and 11 years on the lees:
“A ripe orchard fruits, brioche, apricot and white pepper nose. The flavours include white pepper, abundance of yellow stone fruits, citrus. Good length to the wine that is mouth watering and fades with a creamy yet crisp ending. Ideal gastronomic wine.” Christopher Walkey – Founder of Glass of Bubbly.
Champagne Charles Heidsieck is available to purchase (trade) via Liberty Wines.
