What is Champagne Collectors?

We are building a unique community of vintage and rare Champagne label lovers where they can share their special Champagne moments, network together and also a safe place to sell / trade / buy. Already we have over 4,700 members in our private Facebook group and approaching 1,000 followers on Instagram.

Champagne Collectors

The domains www.champagnecollectors.co.uk and www.champagnecollectors.com are already secured.

The vision:

To create a unique members only website listing hard to find vintage and rare (tete de cuvée) labels that are resting in Champagne cellars thus offering the purchaser the best opportunity to enjoy the wine at their finest possible levels. Additionally live auction listings can be added via partner wine merchants and wine investment companies along with a standard eBay listing facility for consumer sales.

Membership will include paid for options at varied levels that will carry added benefits such as first choice on new listings. Member dinners and also special Champagne events can be organised to further benefit paid for members.

Founder, Christopher Walkey:

“”I’ve had the pleasure to visit many Champagne houses and enjoy countless kilometres of walking their fine cellars, no doubt, passing by millions of resting bottles.

Most of the stock ageing away are in line to be sold soon and will be hitting the global market to fulfil quotas from supermarket shelves to resellers with thirsty clients to maintain.

What has always interested me is what rests in Champagne cellars of more senior years, the stock that isn’t for sale ‘today’ though gathering dust for house vinotheque purposes, those rare bottles that are set aside for special guests and owner family events.

Many Champagne house cellars will always have their private stock, that one corner that holds vintages of past generations, some are that precious they are even guarded by lock and key.

Do you ever sell these I usually ask?” and mostly “no” is the reply, “they are not part of our portfolio, they are not listed on our website / sales literature“. I usually pose this question again though from a different angle “Do you reserve some of this stock for special guests, maybe to entertain / educate influential Champagne authors and journalists?“, then I get “well sometimes we do dip into our own private stock for this” – “How about for loyal Champagne fans who appreciate the finest quality, senior vintages and are prepared to pay the correct premium value?” and a warmer expression hits their face as they share “for the right price, any Champagne is for sale and we’ve got some very special labels that the top level of connoisseur would love to experience“.

I totally concur that nearly all Champagne houses do not need to sell off their most vintage stock as for many these bottles are significant heirlooms to their proud history, once they part with a rare bottle it is gone forever. Any serious wine collector will hold similar attachment to their most prized bottles, however they will also agree that the memories made by opening and enjoying the contents are even more valuable.

We like to keep hold of our most prized (oldest) vintages, but we are also aware that they hold incredible value in their tasting experiences which can in turn offer the best marketing and PR attraction to our Champagne House.” Champagne winemaker, Epernay.

Champagne Collectors will be a private online members club where some of the most amazing vintages and rare tete de cuvées will be offered for sale from grower labels to the Grandes Marques. Members will be able to purchase direct from the Champagne house cellar guaranteeing the highest level of quality possible – There will also be unique events for members to include rare vintage Champagne dinners and further Champagne experiences.
