Champagne Larmandier Interview With Pierre Larmandier

The love of Champagne is infinite, a language that everyone can understand, a sparkle that can shine in anyone’s glass, it can connect people, brings them together and places a smile on faces around the world.

In this exclusive feature on Glass of Bubbly, we speak with Pierre Larmandier from Champagne Larmandier, let’s discover a little about his life, his journey in the industry and one of his favourite Champagne memories.

It’s Great To Speak With You, Pierre, Can You Tell Us A Little About Yourself & How Your Journey Into The Champagne Industry Began?

“I was born in Vertus, I have been immersed in Champagne from the beginning. My parents created Larmandier-Bernier in 1970, uniting the Bernier family from Vertus and the Larmandier Family in Cramant, famous for their wines since the 19th century.”

Do You Remember Your First Experience With Champagne? When It Was And What Kind Of Label It Was?

“I have no precise memory since I was very young 😉”

How Rewarding And Challenging Is Managing Your Own Champagne House?

“I could have taken it easy, this works quite well in Champagne 😉

I chose more challenging ways (organic and biodynamic farming was not popular in the 90’s) in order to make the style of wine I enjoy drinking. This was difficult for the first 10 years but very rewarding. And 30 years later, it is a great pleasure to see that our 2 boys working with us are sharing the same philosophy.”

Can You Share With Us Some Of The Countries And Locations Around The World That You Can Enjoy A Glass Of Champagne Larmandier-Bernier

“You can find Larmandier-Bernier in more than 50 countries in the world!

Here are some favorites : l’Effervescence – Tokyo; ‘The 10 Cases’ – London; ‘Aphotic’- San Francisco; Aria Restaurant – Sydney; La Pineta – Toscane…”

What Future Plans Can Enthusiasts Of Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Look Forward To In The Coming Years?

“Since our sons are happy to continue the adventure, fans can expect to be able to get some of our wines made together with Arthur and Georges with the same dedication, same purity and maybe even more energy 😉

Our cuvées are 100% estate grown so our sourcing is solid. In addition, we were lucky to have the opportunity to buy a great vineyard in Avize recently. So in a few years, we will be able to make a bit more Champagne from this great terroir.”

Can You Share With Us One Of The Most Memorable Experiences You’ve Enjoyed With A Glass of Bubbly?

“When our son got married in 2020, we opened 2 Larmandier-Bernier magnums: 1988 vintage and 1989 vintage, birth years of the just married.

They both tasted fantastic and I remember the rich, charming style of 1988 versus the deep, mineral style of 1989 and these 2 different styles matched so well the young couple!”

Thank you Pierre, for sharing your story and experiences with us and we at Glass of Bubbly wish you the very best for the future!
