Discover Champagne in the Vallée de la Marne
27th July 2017
Most of the vineyards in the Vallée de la Marne plant the grape variety Pinot Meunier that grows very quickly thanks to their location on the Marne River.
One Pinot Meunier expert is Champagne Éric Taillet. The Taillet family have been working in the vineyards for several generations. In 1995, Éric Taillet took over from his father and continues the cultivation of the vineyards with passion. For him, the result of the work is visible at harvest time. The beautiful hand picked grapes, produce clear wines which then become Champagne. In the cellars, they acquire a strong personality, a small touch of soul brings forth different Champagnes.
You can enjoy a tour or a tasting at Champagne Éric Taillet for €10, however for €15 you can do both a tour through the cellar where you will see the wine press, the fermentation tanks, the gyropalettes, the labelling machines and the Champagne racks and enjoy a tasting of 2 different Champagnes of choice. Established in 1960, Champagne Liébart-Régnier is situated in Baslieux-sous-Châtillon, a typical Champagne village also in the heart of the Vallée de la Marne.
Lauren Liébart and his wife Valérie, cultivate 10 hectares over 2 villages; Baslieux-sous-Châtillon and Vauciennes.
As independent wine growers, the Liébart-Régnier family produces Champagne by using their own grapes with respect to the Champagne making traditions and are fully certified as HVE. The HVE Certification encourages the protection of nature and takes into account 4 main points: biodiversity, fertilization, plant health protection and water control.
The vineyards are planted with the traditional grape varieties; Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and also with the older grape varieties, like the Arbane, the Petit Meslier and the Pinot Gris.
