Discover Weingut Steininger in Austria
11th September 2025
Weingut Steininger is a family-owned winery in Langenlois, Austria, with a long history in winemaking, with four generations actively involved in the business.
It all began with a vacation in Champagne, which ignited their passion for sparkling wine. The year 1989 marked a milestone; they began using the traditional bottle fermentation method. With the single-varietal and single-vineyard sparkling wine production of typical Kamptal varieties, they developed their own Austrian sparkling wine philosophy.
They are situated in the heart of the Kamptal, a region famous for its vineyards and wine production. Steininger has become known for its high-quality sparkling wines (Sekt) and still wines, particularly those made from Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
Their single-vineyard sparkling wines not only highlight the varieties, but also show how the terroir affects the sparkling wine.
Their sparkling wines always do very well in the Herbal Gardens Category, ‘A wine that will have a herbaceous character from herbs to freshly cut grass’ at the Glass of Bubbly Awards, with all these wines winning the following in the Herbal Gardens Category. Their Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2022 won the Trophy in 2024. They also won a Gold Medal for their Muskateller Sekt 2022 and a Silver Medal for their Riesling Reserve Sekt 2021.
