English Fizz and Toasted Cheese Sandwich
11th February 2022
Who doesn’t love a classic toasted cheese sandwich, warm crunchy bread with a hidden gooey cheese waiting to be consumed inside, sometimes adding the likes of tomatoes and onions can be a wonderful way to expand those flavours.
How does English Sparkling Wine pair with a Toasted Cheese Sandwich, I’m guessing that’s the question you’re asking right about now, so let’s pick a bottle of English Fizz and find out.
The English Sparkling Wine
Meopham Valley Vineyard is family run vineyard, it was established in 1991, by David and Pauline Grey, they are located in the lovely village of Meopham in the North Downs of Kent, so if you’re close by, they are more than happy for you to plan a visit to their vineyard, there are a great variety of restaurants, pubs and b&b’s close by, so you can stay the night and not have to worry about enjoying their English Wines and Sparkling Wines.
Their vineyard is east facing on a slope, approximately 100 metres above sea level with the picturesque happy valley as a backdrop. They have 25 acres, with each acre having a density of 1672 vines. They started out by planting seven grape varieties, and now currently grow nine different grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Madeleine Angevine, Leon Millot, Triomphe and Reichensteiner.
Their brand logo is of a windmill, this isn’t just a random windmill, it is the Meopham Windmill, they choose it because they felt it “encapsulated the authenticity and heritage of Meopham.”
Meopham Valley Vineyard – Sparkling Signature – Tasting Notes
Aroma 👃 “Zesty yellow apples, lemons and exciting yellow floral aromas.”
Flavour 👅 “Fizzy citrus, yellow fruits, yellow pears, lemon, minerals and more zesty goodness of the palate.” A fine example of what a Zesty & Zingy Sparkling Wine should be.”
This English Sparkling Wine Won a Silver Medal in the Zesty & Zingy Category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2021
The Toasted Cheese Sandwiches
These easy to make, delicious to eat sandwiches are enjoyed by many, but not often enjoyed with a bottle of English Fizz by their side, normally you think that you pair wine with fine foods, but that’s not always the case, the toasted cheese sandwich is packed with flavour that is perfect to pair with Sparkling Wine.
If you buy yourself some nice bread, fresh tomatoes & onions and your favourite kind of cheddar cheese, make yourself a toasted cheese sandwich and pair with it a bottle of fine English Fizz.
English Fizz and Toasted Cheese Parings
I made two different Toasted Cheese Sandwiches, one good old Cheddar Cheese and one Toasted Cheese, Tomatoes and Onion Sandwich, you can see in the video below that we paired both with Meopham’s English Sparkling Wine.
Toasted Cheese Sandwich and Meopham Sparkling Wine Pairing Notes – “The English Sparkling Wine sends through a burst of zesty citrus, cleansing the palate of the greasy, fattiness, your left at the end with crunchy toast and clean cheddar cheese.”
Toasted Cheese, Tomato and Onion Sandwich and Meopham Sparkling Wine Pairing Notes – “A lovely burst of citrus glides through the sandwich, you get sweet flavours from the tomatoes and onions, the English Fizz removes most of the greasy and fatty textures, leaving simple hearty flavours from the toasted sandwich.”
Have you ever tried English Fizz with your Toasted Cheese Sandwich before? If you haven’t I would recommend it, it’s a fantastic way to make your toasted cheese sandwich taste even better.
