There’s always something special about enjoying a glass of rosé sparkling wine. There are also so many shades of rosé to discover, they range in colour from deep pink to copper to orange to salmon. It has become a beloved choice for celebratory toasts and occasions, such as Valentine’s Day.
Sparkling rosé is usually seen as a refreshing and crisp drink that is very red berry fruit driven and is ideal for Summer Days. It is also a perfect food wine as it pairs so well with a wide variety of food, including seafood, and cheese.
Here we discover some award winning English sparkling rosé wine.
Silverhand Estate – Silver Reign Rosé
Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Kent countryside, Silverhand Estate is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and rich heritage. It is defining the new rules of English sparkling wine, having established the largest single organic vineyard in the UK, covering an area of more than 800 acres.
Winner of the Summer Days Trophy at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024. The Silver Reign Organic Rosé is a meticulously crafted sparkling wine that exudes both refreshment and elegance. It is crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes and made using the Charmat method.
Tasting Notes:
Glass of Bubbly Judges – A divine expression of ripe and delicate raspberries and strawberries, sweet pink icing sugar, pink blossom and floral notes, a very enjoyable sparkling wine to enjoy in the sun.
Christopher Walkey – Strawberry, orange blossom, wild pink floral, sugar-coated pastries on the nose. Nicely balanced wine with good acidity / sweetness / natural fruit flavours showing red berries, pink floral, saline and pink candy.
Oliver Walkey – A mixture of icing sugar-dusted strawberries, baked strawberry puff pastry cakes and ripe natural strawberries. A wondrous expression of pink berries, pink floral, ripe and juicy strawberries, exploding on the palate, with further delights in the bakery, with baked cakes topped with strawberries and more.
Heppington Vineyard – Sparkling Rosé 2019
From their outstanding terroir on the edge of the North Downs, Heppington Vineyard is on a gentle south facing slope at the perfect height above sea level. It is apt that the city of Canterbury is twinned with Reims, the birthplace of Champagne.
Winner of a Gold Medal in the Classic & Elegant category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024. The Heppington Vineyard Sparkling Rosé 2019 is an elegant pale pink English sparkling Rosé made in the traditional method that is bursting with summer fruits.
Tasting Notes:
Glass of Bubbly Judges – Dried cranberry and cherry, a little yeast, spearmint note, mouth-filling, light body, still young, needs a little more time to round out.
Christopher Walkey – Soft expression on the nose. Delicate pink floral, strawberry. Fresh, crisp and a clean biting expression on the palate. Mellow in mid-palate to close. Red berry flavours with a mid-acidity and saline freshness.
Oliver Walkey Aroma – Fresh strawberries, ripe for the picking, with delicate, mousse and creamy strawberries mixed with cream. Touch of red berry skins in the background. Flavour – Fizzy strawberries, hints of pink and purple floral, notes of cranberry and red currants with subtle bark and cherry notes.
Camel Valley Pinot Noir Rosé Brut 2021
Producing award-winning, world-class wines in a beautiful corner of Cornwall since 1989, Camel Valley sits in the idyllic setting on sun-drenched slopes near the famous Camel River with excellent grapes that perfectly suit the soil and climate.
Winner of a Gold Medal in the Gastronomic category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024. The Camel Valley Pinot Noir Rosé Brut 2021 is a beautifully balanced light pink traditional method sparkling wine with a classic English Pinot character that pairs beautifully with food.
Tasting Notes:
Glass of Bubbly Judges – Dried cherries, strawberries, grapes, honey notes, with yeast, a moderate concentration, creamy mousse, and good length.
Christopher Walkey – Raspberry pastry, pink and orange rose petals on the nose. Red berries, orange fruits, orange blossom, lemon and a touch of herbal in the palate. Good levels of acidity, good for lengthy ageing. Saline close.
Knightor – Classic Cuvée Rosé
Situated on the south Cornish coast Knightor makes premium quality, limited production English wines from grapes grown in English vineyards and their own vines at Portscatho and Seaton. Knightor’s Blanc de Blancs 2015 took home the coveted title of The World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly 2024.
Winner of a Gold Medal in the Summer Days category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024. The Knightor Classic Cuvée Rosé is an elegant blend of the finest parcels of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with aromas of raspberry, strawberry and buttery pastry and soft flavours of red fruits and cream. Aged for a minimum of 5 years.
Tasting Notes:
Glass of Bubbly Judges – Lots of dried peaches and cream, with hints of savoury onion skin with a touch of peach kernel. Beautiful inviting nose, discovering delicious peaches & cream.
Christopher Walkey – Delightful aromas, quite bold in character showing strawberry cake, orange floral, red apples. Fresh and fruity, nicely balanced between fresh and sharp engish garden fruit flavours and acidity – Orange floral, strawberries, red and green apple flesh, yeasty / pastry.
Oliver Walkey – Warming yeasty notes with red berries, red apples, strawberries and more, with even some melted butter on pastry. The palate offers a sweet red berry expression with ripe red Ladysmith apples, cherries, cranberries and pink floral notes.
Woodchurch – Rosé 2020
A family business established in 2009, Graham and Donna Barbour found the perfect site for a vineyard in Kent in 2009 and planted 10,000 vines in 2010, the vineyard is 20m above sea level and has the perfect aspect for growing vines. Woodchurch released its first vintage in 2015.
Winner of a Silver Medal in the Gastronomic category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024. The Woodchurch Rosé 2020 is a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grapes all grown exclusively on their single vineyard estate in Kent. The wine has a delightful bright rosy hue.
Tasting Notes:
Glass of Bubbly Judges- Strawberries and a wonderful display of red cherries, with notes of dough, toast and brioche, full-bodied.
Christopher Walkey – A lovely darker rosé colouring, edging toward Saignee’s character. Floral driven on the nose with both pink and red rose petals. Floral is still the theme in the palate with added zesty red berries.
Oliver Walkey – Roasted chestnuts, red berries, pastries and toasty notes greet the aroma with a joyful expression, that Christmas is just around the corner. The palate displays notes of dried red berries, cherries, cranberries, redcurrants and more, with notes of mulled wine, oak and woody spices in the background.
Burn Valley – Sparkling Rose 2021
Situated four miles from the North Norfolk coast, an area of outstanding natural beauty is the south-facing Burn Valley Vineyard. Located on their family farm in North Creake, two sisters work alongside their brother who farms the land surrounding the vineyard making it a real family project.
Winner of a Silver Medal in the Light & Fruity category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024. The Burn Valley Sparkling Rose 2021 is a beautifully pale pink Pinot Noir rose made in the traditional method. Enjoy all year round for your taste of summer in a glass.
Tasting Notes:
Glass of Bubbly Judges – Dried cherries, strawberries, and peaches with a fresh bread overlay. Well-defined, crisp acidity and light body. Good interest in flavour with herbal nuance. Intriguing.
Christopher Walkey – Raspberry, freshly picked root vegetables and orange floral nose. Decent fruity flavours initially, nice fresh burst then mellows a touch to show fruit skins / minerality.
Oliver Walkey – Yeasty pink floral, red berries, pastries, parsnip, crisp, fruity notes.
Carr Taylor – Rosé 2019
David and Linda Carr Taylor realised their ambition of planting a vineyard when, in 1969, David purchased 21 acres of land surrounding his family home in the beautiful East Sussex countryside.
Winner of a Silver Medal in the Summer Days category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024. The Carr Taylor Sparkling Rosé 2019 is made in the traditional method with Pinot Noir and Dornfelder grapes which give it a delicate pink shade.
Tasting Notes:
Glass of Bubbly Judges – Clean, soft, and elegant, with plums, minerals, red berries and more to explore.
Christopher Walkey – Orchard fruits, touch of orange blossom, sweet spices, red berries on the nose. Orange characteristics in the palate with orchard fruits, orange blossom and raspberries.
Oliver Walkey – A delicate pink floral expression, almost candified, with it’s sweetness, along with tangerine, strawberries and cranberries. The palate delivers on the promise of the aroma, with an extra touch of sweetness and red berry tannins.
Goodworth – Rose 2021 Brut
Planted in 2016, the small family vineyard of Goodworth is nestled between the river Anton and the Church in the ancient Hampshire village of Goodworth Clatford in the Test Valley – famed for its crystal clear and trout-filled chalk streams.
Winner of a Silver Medal in the Summer Days category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024. The Goodworth Rose 2021 Brut is Goodworth’s first vintage Rose English Quality Sparkling Wine made from a blend of 60% Pinot Meunier and 40% Pinot Noir. It is a lovely pink colour with pale coppery highlights.
Tasting Notes:
Glass of Bubbly Judges – A crisp pale rosé with nice acidity, red berries and fruits, along with lovely ripe raspberries.
Christopher Walkey – Summer berry fruits on the nose with a subtle pastry note. Touch weaker in flavours, a refreshing glass of summer berry fruits with mid to lower acidity.
Oliver Walkey – Red berries, strawberries and raspberries, hints of red cherries, pink floral. Light & very easy to enjoy, with joyful strawberries, red fruits and raspberries, lady apple skins, along with subtle hints of red berries.
Tuffon Hall Vineyard – Charlotte 2020
Situated in the heart of East Anglia, this family run vineyard has been producing a boutique selection of limited edition award-winning wines since 2014, the farmland which their family has been working for over 100 years.
Winner of a Silver Medal in the Summer Days category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2024. The Tuffon Hall Vineyard Charlotte 2020 is a traditional method sparkling rosé made from a blend of Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir grapes.
Tasting Notes:
Glass of Bubbly Judges – A display of fresh rose petals, red berries and red fruits, along with pastries and a touch of savoury hints.
Christopher Walkey – Lots of fruit blossom and red berry fruits on the nose with a touch of flaky pastry. Colour is a rose / orange shade. Clean and fresh, mid acidity levels and lower sugar style with delicate display of red berries and floral notes.
Oliver Walkey – A mix of red berries, red fruits, pastry, savoury notes and blossom on the aroma, the palate intensifies the savoury notes and switches out the blossom to wonderful rose petals.
