English Sparkling Wine Sales Up 188%

New figures published by Waitrose revealed that customers are buying 80% more English wine than they did last year.

Waitrose stocks over 100 English and Welsh wines and has 60% of the market share of English wine sales. English sparkling wine is continually going from strength to strength.

Champagne Taittinger just recently announced they have bought land in Kent, England with the intention of producing premium English sparkling wines

Pierpaolo Petrassi, head of wine buying at the supermarket, said: “Sales of English sparkling wine at Waitrose are up 188% year on year and we know that our customers will enjoy celebrating this Christmas and New Year with a glass of English sparkling wine.”

Waitrose is the only supermarket to have its own vineyard, which produced its first grapes in 2011 and have alreasy launched its second vintage of Leckford Brut 2012.
