Fox & Fox English Sparkling Wine to Step Up Production
14th February 2020
Over the past 15 years boutique Sussex producer, Fox & Fox, has built a solid reputation as a grower-producer of highly-acclaimed varietal sparkling wines, and following a six month business review has recently put in place significant changes designed to deliver substantial capital to fund further development of the company.
Going forward, Fox & Fox will be focussing expressly on winemaking and marketing has made the decision not to develop a tourism strand to the business.
Gerard and Jonica Fox, the owners of the eponymous Fox & Fox said ‘After fifteen years of growing vines and the ownership and development of two vineyard sites we wanted to be clear about what matters to us in the future. This review was prompted as it became obvious that, after ten very happy years of making award winning wine with our neighbour Davenport Vineyards, we needed more winery capacity in order to meet our ambitions.’ Winemaking was moved to the new state-of-the-art winery at Bolney Wine Estates in 2019. Fox & Fox winemaker and viticulturist Jonica Fox said “We have loved working with Will Davenport and have made some great wines together. Having recently tasted all of the base wines from our first-rate 2019 vintage we are confident that we will continue to make outstanding wines with the team at Bolney.”
As part of this focus on the future Fox & Fox are pleased to confirm the sale of one of their vineyards (known as Lakestreet) to High Weald Wines and are delighted to welcome them to Mayfield in East Sussex. Fox & Fox will be doubling the capacity of their remaining vineyard and will be working in partnership with carefully selected Sussex growers to source top quality fruit to expand capacity. Gerard Fox said “It is important as a high-end boutique producer to adopt an agile approach to developments in the English Wine industry. By making these changes and focussing our efforts on the making and marketing of our wines we are able to build on their increasing popularity in Scandinavia, Hong Kong and other export markets, to match that which we have received in the UK”
2020 marks 16 years since Fox & Fox first planted vines and will be celebrated in March with the launch of a Limited Edition Cuvée personally blended by Gerard to reflect the grapes grown by Fox & Fox. CV (Chairman’s Vat Brut 2014).
