England produced almost 6 million bottles of wine in 2017 of which 68% around 4million was sparkling wine. This is predicted to be 40m bottles by 2040.
There are around 160 wineries in England & Wales & 502 commercial vineyards.
There were 1 million new vines planted in 2017.
English sparkling wine dates back to 1662.
English sparkling wine is produced using the same method as used in Champagne.
Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking, Sussex is the UK’s largest vineyard with 250 hectares and employs 150 members of staff.
Champagne Houses are planting vineyards in England – Champagne Taittinger in Kent and Champagne Pommery in Hampshire.
You should always hold a wine glass by the stem otherwise the heat from your hand will warm up your fizz.
There are approx 49 million bubbles in a bottle of sparkling wine.
