Interview With Glass of Bubbly Writer David Nershi

The World of Wine is beautifully showcased by some very passionate people, who love to write and share their knowledge and experience of wine just as much as they love to taste it, in this feature we speak with a brilliant Glass of Bubbly Writer from the United States of America, David Nershi, you can discover his first article about Stift Klosterneuburg Sparkling Grüner Veltliner Unveils Delicious Bubbles, and we can’t wait to share his next feature soon, so let’s find out a bit about his life in the wonderful world of wine.

Tell Us About Yourself & What Inspired You To Become Involved In The Wine Industry?

“My first real wine tasting was a showcase of German wines by Les Amis du Vin. My future wife and I had a great evening and those sweet white German wines started our love affair with wine. Over the years our palates have evolved (although I still love a good German Riesling) to appreciate a wide breadth of wine grapes and styles. I have a background as a newspaper and magazine writer and editor and communication has been important in my professional career. As my wife and I became more interested in wine, I saw an opportunity to combine my writing skills with my love of vino. I started my wine blog in Toledo, Ohio, in 2009. It featured a calendar of area tastings, wine events, and wine reviews. Today the scope of my Vino-Sphere blog and freelance writing also encompasses food and travel, a wonderful combination with wine. I reside in the Raleigh area of North Carolina, USA. North Carolina has a growing wine industry with nearly 200 wineries. A few of the leading wineries are trying their hand at sparkling wine. In addition to sipping sparkling wine, I also like sabrage.”

Do You Remember Your First Experience With Sparkling Wine? When It Was And What Kind Of Wine It Was?

“While working as the executive director of a national foundation I arranged a celebration of a significant donation. For that, Champagne was popped. Although Champagne doesn’t have to be reserved for only special occasions, there is nothing like it for creating a fun and festive mood.”

What Sparkling Wine Producing Countries or Regions Hold A Special Place In Your Heart?

“A visit to Penedès in Spain gave me a special appreciation for Cava. It is produced using the méthode traditionnelle and represents a great value, even for premium bottles. Penedès is the home of many modern and innovative winemakers. The region is part of fiercely independent Catalonia, which has its own language and culture. It’s a remarkable place that I can revisit with each sip of Cava.”

Where’s The Most Memorable Place You’ve Enjoyed A Glass of Bubbly?

“The most memorable place I’ve had a glass of bubbly is the Boschendal wine estate in the Western Cape region of South Africa. South Africa has a great tradition of winemaking thanks to the immigration of French Huguenots who brought with them not only their winemaking traditions but also their love of cuisine. Boschendal has rolling lawns and stately oak trees surrounding a Cape Dutch-style manor home. Under the shade of the trees, my wife and I tasted through an assortment of Methode Cap Classique wines, the South African traditional method sparklers.”

Thank you, David, for sharing your story and experiences with us and we at Glass of Bubbly wish you the very best for the future!
