Grower Champagne: RL Legras
16th June 2016
In 1808, Honoré Legras developed a fantastic vineyard on the Cote des Blancs, whose name comes from the white Chardonnay grape which dominates here.
The family today still stands for the same passion and attention to detail that makes Champagne Legras great.
Champagnes to try
Legras Blanc de Blancs Brut Grand Cru Chouilly – L&S, £27.95
100% Chardonnay. “From the Grand Cru vineyards of Chouilly, this entirely Chardonnay Champagne has a pale colour, smooth weight and fresh flavour, with remarkable clean length and a zesty finish. A really exciting quality Champagne which (still) deserves a wider audience.”
2007 Présidence Vieilles Vignes Brut Grand Cru Chouilly – L&S, £45.95
A vintage made from an exceptional harvest. Its ageing potential of around ten years will give you the opportunity for an extra period of storage in your cellar. “With a light dosage of just 5g/l – this is a wonderfully fresh vintage Champagne from Legras. Complex, lovely bright fruit – intense and with great mineral drive.”
