Gusbourne Estate

15th May 2014

“Gusbourne’s philosophy is to continue to be England’s most prestigious boutique wine producer, crafting 100% of our wines from our own estate owned grapes” – Ben Walgate, Chief Exectuve Officer.

Gusbourne Estate is located in Appledore in Kent, approximately 75 miles from central London and 30 miles from Canterbury, site of the architectural masterpiece of Canterbury Cathedral and inspiration for Geoffrey Chaucer’s 14th-century literary classic The Canterbury Tales.

Gusbourne Estate itself can be traced back to 1410. During the 16th century, the estate was known as ‘Gooseborne’ and carried the crest of three geese, which also appeared in the Parish Church in Appledore.

The first vines were planted at Gusbourne Estate in 2004 after Andrew Weeber purchased the property in 2003. Andrew, a retired orthopedic surgeon from South Africa who had experience of wine production in Stellenbosch, saw the great potential for grape growing at Gusbourne and brought his fastidious, scientific attention to detail to both the vineyard establishment and the creation of the first wines. From the beginning, Andrew had a vision for Gusbourne to be one of the world’s leading wine estates.

The very first vintages of Gusbourne were Gusbourne Estate Brut Reserve 2006 and Gusbourne Estate Blanc de Blancs 2006, both of which were released in 2010 to great acclaim.

2013 was a landmark year for Gusbourne and saw the Company admitted to the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange, as Gusbourne Plc. Gusbourne Plc is the first and only UK wine producer to be quoted on AIM. The Company remains committed to the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of the business.
