13 Frightful Nights – Night 2 – Blade
Blade
Directed By Stephen Norrington and Written by David S. Goyer, the 1998 movie Blade is based on the Marvel Comic Superhero Blade, staring Wesley Snipes as the character of Blade
Blade is referred to as a Dhampir, a human being with vampire strengths but not their weaknesses, who fights against vampires.
Released on the 21st of August 1998 in the United States, it was a success, bringing in $70 million at the U.S. box office, and $60.2 million worldwide. Although it did receive mixed reviews from film critics, the film was positively received by the audiences and has since garnered a big cult following.
Blade: There are worse things out tonight than vampires
Dr. Karen Jenson: Like what?
Blade: Like me
It’s often said that Wesley Snipes was born to play the character of Blade,
Although not within the theme of Marvel films today, it was Marvel’s first successful film, setting the stage for further comic book characters to make their way into the movie world.
- Blade – 1998
- Blade II – 2002
- Blade: Trinity – 2004
- Blade 4 – February 14th 2025
Pushed back from originally releasing on the 6th of September 2024, one thing for sure is that Mahershala Ali will be taking up the role of Blade, taking over from Wesley Snipes.
We also got to see two TV Series
- Blade: The Series – 2006
- Marvel Anime: Blade – 2011
Neither of them starred Wesley Snipes.
Blade: You better wake up. The world you live in is just a sugar-coated topping! There is another world beneath it: the real world. And if you wanna survive it, you better learn to PULL THE TRIGGER!
Although famously appearing in Marvel movies, Stan Lee’s Cameo didn’t make the cut in Blade, they filmed a scene where he played a cop who discovers Quinn’s burned corpse after the opening massacre of Blade, but ultimately this scene was cut.
Another famous name was also cut from making an appearance, The King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson was meant to make an appearance in Blade II as a vampire pimp in the House of Pain, but this idea had to be dropped due to scheduling conflicts.
