High Clandon Gloriana Cuvée 2018
7th April 2025

Sibylla and Bruce Tindale founded High Clandon in 2004. Sibylla is a true enthusiast of great Champagnes and believes that the best of English sparkling wines can surpass those of France. They work with award winning winemaker and director of the Hattingley Valley Wine Estate, Emma Rice to produce their Quintessence English bubbly.
What Is The Story Behind The Name Of Your ‘Gloriana’ Label?
“This answer applies across all our vintages from 2008*…each is named in the year it is degorged and released. We then choose a name that captures a major event in the English calendar in that year and must also reflect the style of the Cuvée – feminine or masculine, erect or curved…you get my drift!!?. Each one is unique as we are terroir-driven and do not make to a formula, so each ‘captures’ the vineyard in the year the grapes ripen and are harvested.
Gloriana 2018 vintage was released in 2023 and celebrates the wonderful reign of Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022 and captures her glorious reign and harks back to here = forebear Elizabeth I – she, a warrior queen and much loved and hence given the name Gloriana. The Cuvée is rounded, feminine, elegant and balanced, so hence a feminine name and reflecting the glorious summer of 2018.
*For example, our 1st vintage 2008 was named The Queen’s Jubilee Cuvée to mark the Queen’s 60th Diamond Jubilee and it is today still a magnificent aged vintage of 17 years! Drinking very well, too. Then we sometimes move to Grecian mythology and capture the essence of bliss or happiness or beauty…so the names Elysium, Halcyon, Endymion, Euphoria, Aurora have been used by us for our vintages!” – Sibylla Tindale: Founder of High Clandon

Along with offering tours and tastings, High Clandon do something rather more unique, which benefits their whole community, ‘Art & Sculptures In The Vineyard’.
“Art and Sculptures in the Vineyard was a concept to tie together the gorgeous taste of our Cuvée, to reach a market of like-minded lovers of sparkling wine and our delight in the arts of Surrey and beyond. This was a way of celebrating the release of our annual five-year-aged vintage every summer with great, happy, enticing art showing in our wildflower meadow, gardens, vineyard and Glass Barn…and then the realisation that a marvellous charity for children with severe disabilities, Cherry Trees based in our village of East Clandon could benefit too. So, this circle of support has become a feature of our summer calendar. 10% of art sales go to Cherry Trees, the artists have a beautiful showcase for sculptures and paintings and do not pay any commission to us and we have the joy, and so do our visitors of wonderful art. This year celebrates not only 20 years of the vineyard but also our 11th Art & Sculptures in the Vineyard event.” – Sibylla Tindale: Founder of High Clandon
