Lunch Breakfast and Dinner With English Sparkling Wine

We all know that English Sparkling Wine is making big waves in the wine industry, creating some truly amazing Sparkling Wines that rival the likes of Champagne, for example, the World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly for 2021 was an English Sparkling Wine from Sussex.

With English Sparkling Wine going nowhere but up, it’s a good idea to start really putting it to the test with cuisine, so let’s see how well Kent’s original vineyard, Biddenden holds up while enjoying Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, can this English Sparkling Wine be enjoyed alongside every meal?

The English Sparkling Wine – Who Are Biddenden Vineyards?

Kent’s original vineyard, the Barnes family has owned and managed Biddenden Vineyards since 1969, but vines weren’t the first things planted there, there were originally over 40 acres of apple orchards, but in the late 60’s apple prices began to decline, and in 1969, they decided to turn 1/3 of their acres into vines, that’s when Biddenden Vineyards was born.

They currently have 12 different grape varieties planted over 23 acres of south-facing slopes. It’s interesting to know that their first wine was bottled in 1973, it would be amazing if you have that bottle safely stored somewhere, today they produce around 80,000 bottles per year and the vineyard is currently being run by the second & third generations of the Barnes family.

Biddenden’s Demi-Sec 2019 won a Trophy in the Dessert Category, so we paired it was some of the most delicious pastries and cakes which you should explore if you have a love for sweet treats: Patisserie Desserts with Biddenden English Sparkling Wine

Flavour – “Soft lemon citrus, wide array of floral, minerals, with honey in the background on the palate.”

Breakfast

Let’s go for a hearty breakfast, full of greasy, meaty flavours, a Bacon Butty or otherwise known as a Bacon sandwich is a classic British breakfast. I’m expecting this English Sparkling Wine to help cut through the greasy characters to help bring out the savoury bacon with a pleasing mixture of floral notes.

Pairing Notes – “The Sparkling Wine enters with an array of floral and yellow citrus notes, it tours the room then takes a seat while the extra savoury bacon flavours take charge and finish off the night.”

Lunch

We’ll go for a classic English lunch, the egg sandwich, including homegrown garden herbs (mint, parsley, chive) to add a new layer of flavour. Egg and Sparkling Wine pair very nicely together, so I’m expecting a lot from this combo.

Pairing Notes – “The Sparkling Wine comes in calmly, breathing a new life into the egg sandwich with lemon citrus and gooseberry citrus notes combined with a wide array of floral notes, but don’t forget the herbs, which get enhanced with extra flavoursome minty notes.”

Another lunchtime meal comes in the form of soup, there are many different varieties, but let’s go with a loved creamy tomato soup to see how two forms of liquids come together, will it give you a delicious lunch pairing?

Pairing Notes – “The Sparkling Wine smoothly slips into the tomato soup, it adds its own floral and citrus notes while at the same time enhancing the sweet tomato flavours.”

Dinner

I’ve enjoyed many different Fish and Sparkling Wine pairings, the combination of the two never seem to disappoint, the meaty fish flavours meet the fizzy Sparkling Wine characters with wide open arms, allowing the Sparkling Wine to gift its unique flavours to the fish, creating a great pairing, I’m expecting no less from Biddenden.

Pairing Notes – “The honey-soaked white fish, which is also covered in herbs is met with a delicious and delicate touch of white and yellow floral, along with the faintest touch of citrus, after the mid-length the fresh vegetable flavours come into play with the savoury white fish flavours ending the experience.”

So it seems that Biddenden has done England proud, pairing with dishes from Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, there are of course many more meals to enjoy with a Glass of English Sparkling Wine, but at least you now know, you won’t be disappointed if you try.
