In this article, I speak with a man who has helped many people to discover the vast world of Wines and Sparkling Wines, his name is Pietro Ciofi, let’s find out a bit about his life as a Sommelier.

Could You Tell Us About Yourself?

“My name is Pietro Ciofi. I am an Italian sommelier student at the Court of Master Sommelier and owner of a wine bar in Tuscany.”

What Inspired You To Become a Sommelier?

“My passion for the world of sommeliers was born from the beginning of my career, I was born in the Chianti area I feel strongly connected to this world, for me before being a job it is a passion and a lifestyle.”

How Often Do You Find Yourself Recommending English Sparkling Wine?

“Regarding your question on English sparkling wines, yes, I sometimes serve them having a restaurant specialized in bubbles and red wines, I find English sparkling wines to be excellent and constantly increasing in their quality.”

In Your Professional Opinion, When Pairing Wine With Food, Out Of Champagne And Prosecco, Which Do You Think Does A Better Job With Complementing A Meal?

“As far as my opinion is concerned, prosecco is a product of excellent drinkability, I prefer it for an aperitif alone, or in the company of light snacks. Champagne, on the other hand, is my great passion, it is an extremely versatile wine to drink alone, or in combination with fish, cured meats and cheeses. Older and richer years I have also combined them with blue cheeses.”

What Advice Would You Give To Inspiring Sommeliers?

“My advice is to make this job a passion and to keep constantly informed, to always confront people to learn.”

If You Sat Down For a Quiet Dinner, What Dish And Sparkling Wine Would You Choose To Enjoy Together?

“Whether I sit down for dinner depends on the occasion if an important occasion I’m a big fan of Egly Ouriet, especially the Rosè.”
