Interview With Glass of Bubbly Writer – Lívia Mokri
7th March 2024
The World of Wine is beautifully showcased by some very passionate people, who love to write and share their knowledge and experience of wine just as much as they love to taste it, in this feature we speak with a new Glass of Bubbly Writer from Portugal, Lívia Mokri, her first feature, ‘Espumante – The Sparkling World In Portugal‘ was very well received and we can’t wait to share her next feature, let’s find out about her life in the wine industry.
Tell Us About Yourself & What Inspired You To Become Involved In The Wine Industry?
“My name is Lívia, I am a wine expert, sommelier, and tour guide in Portugal. I work primarily in wine tourism, but my writings appear monthly in a local magazine about Portuguese wines. Additionally, I also hold wine tastings and wine tours in the country for foreign wine clubs and wine enthusiasts.
I grew up a few kilometers from the famous Hungarian Tokaj wine region, so the world of wines was not far from me. In addition, I was passionate about traveling. That’s how I fell in love with Portugal and passionately with Portuguese wines, as well.
Although I already had degrees in IT and Diplomacy, I decided to change my life. I obtained the WSET wine expert and then the sommelier qualifications. Meanwhile, I went to every wine tasting and wine festival to learn and taste wines.
Then I moved to Portugal, where I also obtained a tour guide license. And I started to delve even more into the world of Portuguese wines. I tasted, traveled, and read a lot to learn. I was curious and enthusiastic. And the more I learned, the more I wanted to share my knowledge with wine lovers around the world. That’s why I started blogging and holding wine tastings. Then I became a wine writer at a local magazine, where my articles about Portuguese wines are still published every month.
I got into the wine world with passion, but today my main desire is to show wine lovers the world of Portuguese wine regions and wine producers through my writings and wine tours.”
Do You Remember Your First Experience With Sparkling Wine? When It Was And What Kind Of Wine It Was?
“To be honest, I don’t have a clear souvenir of my first experience. But one of the first times I consciously tasted a sparkling wine happened in Portugal. It was a bubble that I still consider to be a great wine, a Marques de Marialva, from Adega de Cantanhede, the biggest sparkling producer in the Bairrada wine region in the country. This sparkling was a Blanc de Noirs, produced from the Baga iconic grape variety of that region. That was a liquid bubble sensation with an incredible flavor profile and fresh acidity. Since that tasting, I never celebrated my birthday without a bottle of sparkling from this brand.”
What Sparkling Wine Producing Countries or Regions Hold A Special Place In Your Heart?
“Definitely Portugal. Few know, but Portugal has a long tradition of making sparkling, however, Portuguese sparkling wine – called Espumante – is still an undiscovered category among wine lovers. Quality sparklings are produced in the country, and they are not only made exclusively in a particular region or cooler northern part of Portugal but even in so sunny, southern regions, such as the Algarve.”
Where’s The Most Memorable Place You’ve Enjoyed A Glass of Bubbly?
“I don’t have a specific physical place where I have enjoyed a glass of bubbles. Good sparkling is always magical when it is shared in good company. The best moments are certainly those in which I share a bottle with my family and friends, or with wine enthusiasts at a wine-tasting dinner organized by me.”
Thank you, Lívia, for sharing your words, knowledge and experiences with us and we at Glass of Bubbly wish you the very best for the future!
