Istenic Prestige 2013 Extra Brut
5th July 2021
I was really excited to taste this sparkling wine from Istenič and once again it did not disappoint! If you love a floral driven sparkling wine with plenty of fresh fruits including exotic then the Prestige 2013 is right up your street.
A winery that I have visited and have explored many of their extensive range of sparkling wines (11 cuvée on offer), Istenič is a positive advocate for Slovenia and its wines. The only country in the world to have love in its name, Slovenia has some of the greatest traditional method sparkling wines on the market today – I am working on building the presence of these wines in the UK and certainly to get more wine professionals experiencing the amazing aromas and flavours on offer from each of the country’s wine regions.
Istenič Winery – Slovenia:
“… the first private company in Slovenia and in federal Yugoslavia to produce sparkling wine using the traditional method.”
A family story since 1968 and its first sparkling wine label, Barbara, Istenič have gone on to accumulating gold medals and trophies for their wines globally to include a collection from the Glass of Bubbly Champagne & Sparkling Wine Awards.
- 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir
- 13.0% Vol
- Soil composition: Dystric brown soil, on Pliocene or Quaternary clay and loam, 60% leached pseudogley, inclined, dystric, shallow, 40% medium deep.
Tasting notes: “Still a wonderful vintage and label from Istenic of Slovenia. Glorious floral and yellow fruits on the nose. Flavours are even more expressive of floral with yellow rose petals and white blossom along with honeysuckle… How I could go on. Plenty of fresh fruits also with citrus and tropical… Gold Medal winner at the 2020 Glass of Bubbly Awards in the category of ‘Meditation’.”
