Jean-Charles Boisset, one of the most passionate, hardworking people in the wine industry has done it again. This time, with Champagne… and it is downright delicious. Jean-Charles wanted to celebrate the history behind Agoston Harasthy (considered the Father of California viticulture and founder of Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma) and his son Arpad’s legacy. Arpad spent over two years in France learning the craft of sparkling wine production and was the first to introduce Methode Champenoise to the United States. Arpad’s sparkling wine, Eclipse was one of the most well-known wines of the 19th century. So naturally, as the now owner of Buena Vista and a lover of Champagne, Jean-Charles wanted to create something very special and with that La Victoire Brut Champagne was born.

As a Boisset Ambassador, I attended our annual retreat and I was fortunate enough to have a few minutes of Jean-Charles’ time to chat about this exciting new release and his love for Champagne.

Bridget: Congratulations Jean-Charles! As a lover of Champagne, this must be so exciting to have created La Victoire for Buena Vista!

Jean-Charles Boisset: It is very exciting! La Victoire Brut Champagne is delicious, classic and pure! It was made entirely in Champagne, France from 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and sourced predominately from Grand Cru vineyards in Ambonnay, Bouzy and Louvois.

B: What is the dosage for La Victoire?

JCB: The dosage is 9.5 g/l. I prefer a lower dosage, just enough, nothing excessive.

B: What is your favorite food pairing with La Victoire?

JCB: Of course there are so many classic pairings, but I really love sole meunière.

B: That sounds like a delicious pairing! When you are visiting Champagne, where is your favorite place to dine?

JCB: Ahh…Le Park Restaurant at Les Crayeres in Reims.

B: Of course! It’s lovely there! When you aren’t drinking your own Champagne, what’s another favorite?

JCB: Laurent-Perrier’s Grand Siècle is absolutely a favorite!

We concluded our chat for the evening and Jean-Charles proceeded to shower us all with multiple bottles of La Victoire on the dance floor and I checked an item off my bucket list!
