Lambrusco is Back & Overtaking Sales of Prosecco

VENTIVENTI Lambrusco Salamino of Santa Croce DOC

Popular in the 1980s, Lambrusco had fallen out of fashion and considered too sweet. Today, Celebrity Chef Antonio Carluccio is heading up the revival of Lambrusco after stocking the £30 Vecchia Modena across 100 of his restaurants in the UK, where last week it outsold Prosecco.

Thanks to a particularly good vintage, the wine, made from a family of grapes in the Emilio Romagna region of northern Italy, is said to be drier and more importantly, stronger than in any previous crop.

With an alcohol percentage averaging 4% higher today, Lambrusco is also selling well in Waitrose and Marks & Spencer.

Last month Waitrose began selling Pignoletto, the original Lambrusco from Cleto Chiarli and they are already tipping it to be the most popular drink of 2017.
