The appellation Serenissima DOC for Veneto Classic Method was created in 2011. The name is a tribute to the Serenissima Republic of Venice, which ruled the Venetian territories and most of north-eastern Italy until the end of the eighteenth century. The DOC area encompasses what used to be the “ Garden of Venice” at the time of Serenissima , the foothills between the Alps to the north and the Po plain to the south. It doesn’t include the whole of this large area but focuses on specific portions in the area. The vineyards are grown on gentle slopes at the foot of hilly and mountain areas where summers are cool with light breezes and a significant temperature difference between day and night, thus affecting freshness and acidity notes in the wine.
